Tokyu Kabukicho Tower / Yuko Nagayama & Associates + KUME SEKKEI Co. + Tokyu Architects & Engineers

Yuko Nagayama & Associates designed the façade of Tokyu Kabukicho Tower – Over 4000 glass panels were printed on the surface to represent the fountain that was once there. This super high-rise building in Tokyo’s Kabukicho district, near Shinjuku Station, spans five basement floors and 48 stories aboveground and has a total floor area of approximately 87,400m2. The largest entertainment complex in Japan, the building contains a cinema, a theater, a live venue, and a host of other functions. We worked on the building’s exterior design and part of the interior design.

Jedda Studio draws inspiration from the Indonesian word ‘jeda,’ meaning ‘pause,’ put at odds with the logic of a place, as nuanced, productive, and perpetually advancing as the idea of a studio. Our approach to Jedda Studios is also informed by such contrasts arising from the quality of serenity and sophistication that we observe in the true and dignified display of a modest fashion. This synthesis has guided Jedda’s direction on creating their debut collection in parallel with the process of their studio building.

Glavovic Studio adds massive periscope on walkway near Everglades

American firm Glavovic Studio has created a red aluminium walkway with a large-scale periscope in Florida to connect the local population with the nearby Everglades. Located in Tamarac, a city northwest of Fort Lauderdale, the walkway was placed at the edge of dense suburban development including sprawling single-family neighbourhoods and an Amazon fulfilment centre.
