Whatever religion we classify ourselves as – or even if we actively renounce or denounce organized religion in all its forms – the one aspect of Christianity those in predominantly Christian countries are touched by at some point in their lives, is the classical aesthetic of church architecture.
A corner in the heart of Poble Sec hosts Tiberi Bar. With its 82 m2, it is located in one of Barcelona’s most authentic neighborhoods that attracts young people with its diverse multicultural offer. The space becomes “a bar to feel at home,” as described by the architects, while perfectly reflecting the essence of Tiberi Club: reinventing food-related rituals and encouraging strangers to meet each other.
The task. The park-like site with its ancient trees was to become the building site for a young family’s home. Surrounded by historic villas, all those involved focus on the responsibility associated with the site and continuing to build in an urban context.
How to Make New Relationship – WAVE(dot wave) is located in a residential area with densely populated multi-family and multi-household housings. It is larger than the surrounding areas, allowing a larger volume of construction in the town with densely populated small-scale apartment houses. The building owner wanted to secure the maximum permissible floor area ratio and requested a building with a neighborhood living facility and residential facility ratio of 51:49% with a 0% vacancy rate—vacant space. Planning a maximum volume in the area larger than the surrounding means adding extraordinary scale to the existing city and adding another concentration to the already populated city. In response, WAVE created a “gap” in harmony with the existing city scale and used the view of the gap to make a new relationship with neighbors.
