A4 Art Gallery of Luxehills / TEKTONN ARCHITECTS

October 29, 2023 Pilar Caballero 0

The town of Luxehills is a small hill, the top of which overlooks the entire Foothills community. As a suburban neighborhood community built in the second millennium, Luxehills has a particularly distinctive building feature of its time: the town is modeled on Tuscany, one of Italy’s most scenic landscapes, and great care has been taken to create a small-town feel that can be easily explored.

Misumi Annex Renovation / Studio AMB

October 29, 2023 Hana Abdel 0

This project involves the renovation of a 120-year-old traditional wooden house in the Misumi region of Shimane, Japan, into an accommodation facility. The building, which looks out to sea and nestles up against a hill at the back of the house, was built as a detached house for the local landlord. It is built directly on a stone foundation and is almost semi-outdoor, with only a wooden door as an external wall to blow the wind.

Intervention on a Stone Ruin / CESUGA School of Architecture + Sebastian Erazo + Stefano Pugliese

October 29, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

The faculty of architecture of CESUGA completed a wood and design workshop (during the III International Conference on Timber 2023), whose main goal was to promote the use of wood as a building material in the forestry region of Galicia, Spain, through education in design and construction techniques. An intervention on the ruins of a water mill became the starting point and main objective of the workshop that took place on Senda do Rio Sisalde (The Sisalde River trail), a wide valley that runs from the Atlantic coast, through agricultural land, productive forests, and the Fraga, a protected native forest rich in biodiversity, all the way to the top of the hills. The ruin, without a roof, was found exposed and partly collapsed, as a result of erosion by wind, rain, and vegetation.

Lathhouse / Birdseye

October 29, 2023 Andreas Luco 0

The architectural context of Sagaponack is a dense layering of modernism, contemporary refinement, historicism, and rural farmland. Lathhouse is a regionally inspired home conceptually influenced by the local agricultural history combined with contemporary programming, modernist convention, sustainable building systems and materials, and reverence for vernacular form. Lathhouse reflects a purposeful agrarian context, much like a barn in its pastoral setting. The residence, a two-story gable structure, is oriented east-west facing overlooking a spacious lawn to the south. The sloping topography, coupled with the minimalist pool house, defines the lower lawn, pool, and tennis court. The pool house mediates between the pool and tennis court activities. The perimeter is defined by a continuous privet hedge and anchored by mature deciduous trees.
