Our brains are wired to link colors with sensations and experiences: the lush greens of a forest evoke feelings of tranquility and renewal, while the deep blues of the ocean stir a sense of mystery and adventure. It is this ability to elicit emotion that makes colors an invaluable tool for architects and designers –and which also explains why trends are moving away from the once-reigning neutral minimalism towards a more maximalist aesthetic that embraces pops of color, dimension and playful texture.

MAD Architects Reimagines a Former Cement Factory Warehouse in Shanghai with a Floating Ark

MAD Architects has unveiled the project for the renovation of the “Wanmicang” warehouse on the southside of the Shanghai Zhangjiang Cement Factory. The building is set to be transformed into a multifunctional public waterfront space for culture, creativity, and commerce. The project maintains the character of the former industrial site but introduces a new addition in the form of an ark-like metal ‘floating’ volume, creating a stark contrast between the old and new structures. The project is scheduled for completion by 2026.

Henning Larsen unveils design for world’s largest timber logistics centre

A “place” to receive experiences – This is a plan to rebuild a villa for 14 people in four families. The owner’s family had owned a villa in this area for many years and had vast experience. The site is in a vast forest of chestnut, fir, and dogwood trees, and the neighboring houses cannot be seen. In the summer, they cooled watermelons in the stream at the bottom of the valley, and in the fall, they went out into the forest to pick chestnuts and the way the owners spent their time was to learn from what they saw.

Buchan and Nataly Ernst to Design Australian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka

The designs for the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, have been unveiled by Australia’s Minister for Trade and Tourism. Designed by global firm Buchan in collaboration with architect Nataly Ernst, the scheme celebrates Australia’s natural beauty. Under the theme “Chasing the Sun,” the pavilion is aligned with Expo’s larger theme: developing and adopting the best practices to drive sustainable co-creation. Oasis is the name of an architectural project, but it comes from a research process to create a green and sustainable space with the highest quality of life in one of the densest cities in Spain and Europe. This project is located on the ground floor of a residential block. In the beginning, it was a parish, later a printing press, and finally a bazaar. The first time I visited it, the distribution and products from the bazaar were still there. The challenge was immense.
