Bondi House / Nick Bell Architects

July 8, 2023 Hana Abdel 0

A family home producing more energy than it consumes – NatHERS 8.3 star. With sustainability at the core of this design, Bondi House is a timeless and smart family home that is cool in summer, warm in winter, and cozy in between. The house produces more energy than it consumes and saves water and electricity. Large sliding doors within the front and rear façade create a fluid relationship between indoor and outdoor areas and evoke a relaxed beach vibe commensurate with its surroundings in Bondi Beach. Key elements such as the use of off-form concrete, timber cladding, and sculptural stairs were carefully considered to uplift the overall design and create focal points as well as a warm palette within interiors and exteriors.

TEA WELL Store / Ruhaus Studio

July 7, 2023 July Shao 0

TEA WELL is dedicated to creating innovative space experiences based on pure tea and a unique Oriental aesthetic lifestyle. Whether it’s the physical spaces or the products, they convey the founder’s passion for and exploration of contemporary Oriental aesthetics. The essence of the brand lies in the acceptance of time. RUHAUS STUDIO has taken on the design of TEA WELL’s fifth store, and synchronously reimagined and upgraded the space style to complement the updated product line. Creating spaces in the urban environment that integrate Oriental aesthetics and natural experiences requires us to trace back to the origins of traditional Chinese painting. We strive to rediscover the Eastern way of observing nature that resonates with the Eastern mindset. By bringing this approach into the lives of today’s young people, we aim to establish a harmonious connection between space and emotions and reconstruct a better Oriental world that invites exploration.

It had been abandoned and suffered from burst pipes and significant interior damage. There were even discussions about tearing it down. But after walking the property, the team saw great potential in the home’s original, sometimes quirky details and its unique siting. The glass-wrapped living room cantilevers over a small stream in a manner likely impossible to replicate under modern zoning requirements.

Toronto’s digital billboard-laden Yonge and Dundas Square is owned by the city but managed through a public-private partnership. While primarily hosting commercial content and activities, the spaces and screens of the square are often used for cultural events and artistic content. As cities, arts organizations, governments, and corporations increasingly seek to engage people in public spaces through combinations of media and architecture, what are some of the possibilities and pitfalls associated with their approaches individually and in concert with one another? How does media architecture modulate civic, creative, and commercial interests and impacts?

Ca la Francesa House Renovation / Hiha Studio

The house is located in Juncosa, in the region of Las Garrigues, surrounded by dryland scenery, where the brown and green tones of olive and almond trees prevail at all times. The building (1914) has a typical typology of the Garrigues area: small width (5m) and great depth (15m), a construction system of local tradition: rammed earth and dry stone walls, wooden beams, and gypsum vault floors.
