Neoclassical Apartment Renovation / Mario Montesinos Marco Architecture & Interior

At the end of 2021, an Unidentified Flying Object crashed into an ancient neoclassical building in the heart of the city, causing a great amount of structural damage with a deafening roar. The apartment was a work of architectural art. It had high ceilings, large windows overlooking an interior courtyard filled with tropical plants, and a beautiful view of the city’s Gran Vía. The mosaic floors and ornately decorated moldings were impressive. However, the spaceship had left its irreparable mark. The kitchen and bathroom were completely destroyed.

The “House Havana” – listed as a monument – is located near the Danube promenade in the industrial ensemble of the tobacco factory in Linz. It was built as a tobacco warehouse in the 1930s according to plans by Peter Behrens and Alexander Popp. In the mid-1960s, the storage building was increased and the area in the south and in the north in front of the building was built over. After the demolition of all non-historical-listed components in 2017, there started an EU-wide architecture competition to find ideas for new use.

HSC Cemetery / Objektor

The winning competition proposal for the new cemetery is based on existing qualities of the area – treetops of an elderly chestnut alley, horizons of surrounding fields, existing cemetery wall, the chapel of St. Wenceslas, and axis of a trail leading to the rocky lookout towards Goat ridges. We define the cemetery area through structures, principles, and materials; dividing the space by a grid of cemetery walls and paths enables the easy growth of the cemetery according to capacity needs in the future while maintaining the general concept.
