There is a story behind this project. In a MAZAR, the project’s client met a FAKIR( a Muslim devotee and master, who stays most of the time in MAZAR). MAZAR is a holy place where a PEER ( Islamic religious master and spiritual guide ) was buried. That FAKIR didn’t have any home of his own. The client became his follower and decided to make a KHANKA with a home for that FAKIR.

Calling Education is an NPO that was established out of identifying the need for affordable top-quality education as an imperative to South Africa’s restoration. Their first campus, rolling out their unique funding model, is Calling Academy Stellenbosch, which is located on a bucolic plot bordering the Polkadraai Road between Stellenbosch and Kuilsriver. The site was identified and set aside by the previous generation of surrounding landowners to serve the local farming community and consisted originally of six existing classrooms, a reception, and a sports field.

MI-2 is the second part of a triptych of three-family homes, located along the Mille-Îles River in Laval. The three houses are built in brick and this one, with its light grey color, is chromatically placed in the center. Its set of champagne-colored metal roof slopes and its dynamic claustra give a bold character to the neighborhood. This bungalow-style house is modest in size and inspired by the vernacular of Laval architecture at a time when the island was a vacation spot.
