On a narrow irregularly shaped lot fronting Spa Creek in Annapolis, Maryland this house slips between its neighbors and emerges buoyantly as it lilts towards the creek’s edge. Eschewing traditional ornamentation, the house is formally abstract, modestly scaled, and simply clad to resonate with the local maritime culture. Designed for a couple with a passion for art and sailing, the house becomes a canvas for both these interests simultaneously.
The challenge when designing the building was how to create a pleasant and healthy workspace in this crisis caused by COVID-19. The pandemic made us question the way workspaces are typically built. Sometimes without considering the health benefits that natural ventilation and sunlight can bring. This ventilation and lighting concept sets the design guidelines that the team has been working on for years and it was an opportunity to apply it in this project.

The building was designed in late 2018 and constructed in 2020. Situated in Sopot, Poland, it is adjacent to the city’s main road, blending in with the urban area. It houses both the headquarters of an upmarket developer as well as the architecture firm behind its design.
