Radius House is a context-specific, architectural residence and the first ground-up residential project by the Los Angeles-based design studio, Pentagon in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles. The 3700 sqft, 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom residence features sculptural interior spaces and articulated facades, giving it a distinctive presence in an area recognized for expressive residential designs. Crisp angles, curved surfaces, and large picture windows throughout the two-story structure create unique moments of dialogue between indoor and outdoor.

The house delicately integrates with the surrounding pine forest, blending into the existing spatial context while maintaining a maximum amount of greenery around itself and in between. The single-story structure in a wooded area creates a discrete and serene horizontal setting without any exaggerated attempt to establish itself – it is a natural part of the landscape.

The character of the house came from given parameters of the existing plot. The shape of the building reacts to the directions of the surrounding streets (Vrchlického, Prachnerova, and Hlaváčkova) and its corner position closes the narrow city block. The residential building Prachnerova became a gallery house with internal atriums.

Kozakai Kifukan Community Center / Yasuyuki Ito + C+A Coelacanth and Associates

This core community building in the Kozakai district of Toyokawa contains a community center, library, children’s center, and city hall branch office. The design was selected in a 2017 competition. The spatial appeal of a mixed-use buildings such as this comes largely from its handling of common areas. While individual spaces such as the meeting rooms, music studio, event hall, and kitchen are of course also important, it is the natural overflow of sounds, sights, and other hints of activity into the common areas that gives the facility as a whole its vibrancy.

1. Outline/11-1studio. It is a renovation project of the ground floor (factory, office, garage) of the steel-framed three-story building, which was a factory and residence in a corner of the factory district in Ikebukuro, TOKYO, into a small complex consisting of an architect office, a share-workshop, and a share-cafe. And the architect himself will live in and operate it with the concept of “alternatives to be shown in the future of regional commerce and industry”.

Casa dos Santos is located on a region characterized by its elevation with views over the hill of São João da Madeira and the Serra da Freita. The importance of the landscape facing east was the only premise placed by the client, who wanted to make it possible to enjoy this view from all the interior compartments of the house.
