Talking to the Louisiana Channel, Danish architect Mikkel Frost, talks about how he visualises his ideas and represents his architectural concepts – through the mediums of pen, ink and watercolours. Frost views his use of drawing as different from other architects, who “think as they draw”. Frost, on the other hand, “prints” the image he already has in his mind, saying “I’m many steps ahead of what I draw, basically printing the whiteboard in my mind.”

Villa Sept Petites / Goffart-Polomé Architectes

Started as the restoration of an old villa, the project aims to enhance the quality of the ground floor by reconnecting it to the garden. The major intervention focuses on the creation of a new plinth to magnify the presence of the villa in the middle of the garden meanwhile the bel-etage, the previous living room, is converted into a parental suite. Taking advantage of the existing semi-buried cellar, its reconversion is intended to reconnect living spaces to the garden.

Sam Crawford Architects is the second architect to work on this house, building upon a 2012 renovation that connected the rear of the terrace to the garden and introduced strategic light-wells.

The house has an area of 7mx20m, just right enough to arrange the rooms according to the needs of the owner. It is located on the southeast of the city with the river view. The investor took the time to research and appreciated the architect’s advice. Even though, the house is located in a developing area all the elements such as construction height and construction setback had to comply with the general regulations.
