CIVILIVN, a New York-based creative studio, was engaged by Newlab to transform 77 Washington, a nearly 30,000 square-foot space near its Brooklyn Navy Yard Headquarters. Newlab and CIVILIVN collaborated to reimagine the 1930s-era manufacturing building at 77 Washington Avenue into a cutting-edge space designed to accommodate Newlab’s rapidly expanding community of over 800 engineers, entrepreneurs, and inventors applying transformative technologies to things that matter.

The project is located at Panzhou, a small city in Southwest China. As the site is far away from the downtown, and surrounding urban facilities are insufficient. From the municipal road to the edge is just one walkway away. The flat rectangle square was only severed as a parking lot.

Guarujá House / Nitsche Arquitetos

The house is be located in Iporanga, a condominium for beach houses on Guarujá, São Paulo’s coast city, approximately 120km east from the capital. This condo is inside a very well preserved and protected area of the original Atlantic Rainforest. To preserve the exuberance of this native forest the law permitted to occupy only 30% of the footprint of the ground plot surface. The challenge was to accommodate a large program that included five en-suite bedrooms, which demanded not less than 450m2 to be build. To achieve this, it was necessary to split the program in three levels.

The project was born from the need to expand the school, and from the community’s desire to remain at its current address. Thus, the classrooms are no longer adapted environments in the former residence and have gained appropriate facilities: hexagonal rooms, following the aspiration of the pedagogical body for an anthroposophical architecture.

Overlooking Piazza Farnese, a stone’s throw from Campo de’ Fiori, one of Rome’s historic squares and the focal point of the capital’s nightlife, VyTA Farnese, created by interior design studio COLLIDANIELARCHITETTO combines the features of the traditional Italian bar and contemporary design. The project is an eclectic and experimental transformation of a timeless café: Caffè Farnese, a crossroads for illuminated minds and colourful characters, open from breakfast to post-dinner, where the window of the takeaway bar on Via Dei Baullari invites passers-by to uncurl and unwind.
