The house was designed based on the owners’ aspiration: at once a serene place for weekend relaxation and a precinct filled with greenery, light and absolute privacy. Therefore, the design team decided to separate the house into 2 parts with a twist of split-level arrangement to create privacy and optimize the space of the internal frontage. As this area is used for many mobility activities, each balcony and set of stairs is particularly customized and vary from floor to floor to avoid repetition in moving and maximize the utilization.

The COVID-19 pandemic quickly shuttered the doors of businesses, schools and workplaces across the world. From telecommuting to virtual events, cities have experienced less noise, traffic and pollution. Filmmaker and Director Jeff Durkin of Breadtruck Films recently began to capture these quiet moments on the University of California San Diego campus. Taking inspirations from science fiction series Tales from the Loop, he set out with his children to explore over 100 acres of modern architecture.

Architecture and Musical Instruments
The House of Music was created not only to accommodate as the music classroom for two local music teaching institutions, but also to become a public concert hall for residents. Its architectural style is an inheritance of the region’s long-standing music tradition, and the plan consists of 9 interconnected circular spaces. The relationship between them is a metaphor for various instruments in an orchestra, which can be used for solo or ensemble. When the power is added together, it will produce a very shocking effect. The reference to musical instruments in the building is also achieved through oak siding, wall panels and roofs. They are not only materials and visual effects, at the same time, it has both functionality and can amplify the sound to achieve the effect of a speaker.
In an 8 meters front and 16-meter depth lot, removed from a conventional apartment scheme, where only one apartment could have a private exterior space, we opted for two independent households similar to a townhouse. This left each house with a front of only 4 meters, which implicated a big challenge to solve the program but we managed to transform this challenge into a possibility to generate a unique space.
