It is the oldest village along with Bukchon and was the residence of the royal family, scholars, and the middle class since the Joseon Dynasty. After the Japanese colonial period, it was a village of writers and artists from various fields. It is a town where painters such as Chusa Kim Jung-hee, Jeong Sun, Lee Joong-seop, Lee Sang-bum, Park No-soo, and other poets and novelists such as Seo Jung-joo, Kim Dong-ri, and Yoon Dong-ju lived. The west side of the island topography is characterized by irregular sharpen slopes dominating the Adriatic see. The landscape is covered with typical vegetation of the rainiest Greek region. The one-hectare plot is situated at a high-level plateau, distant about 400 meters from the coast. It is modeled with artificial levels delimited by raw stone low walls, cultivated once with fruit and olive trees. The main sensation is that of a rich natural environment in which human interventions empowered the spirit of the place.

In the ancient period, the students were taught in an open environment under the trees. We have been inspired by this concept as it helps children to connect with nature. It is a wonderful way to learn various life skills, a great chance for kids to flourish, run, jump, slide, make a mess and explore themselves in a natural and informal way. It is important to play a proactive role in developing a positive outlook towards outdoor games or sports among kids as it brings an overall development and that is just what this building aspires to do.

Puqi Wu House / Greyspace Architecture Design Studio

April 23, 2020 Collin Chen 0

In Qiwu village of Putian City, there are many small high-rise buildings newly built by villagers in recent decades, in which Puqi Wu house is located. Looking from the narrow streets and alleys, the simple volume, bright colors, and rectangular windows of different sizes give it a unique image in the background of local houses. At the same time, the curvilinear red tile roof, the looming courtyard in the air, and the cordial red bricks in the streets and lanes convey the modesty and posture in the traditional environment. The whole design of the house revolves around how to interpret the dual meanings of traditional culture and modernity.
