Tüfengraben Villa / Urben Seyboth Architekten

May 8, 2019 Pilar Caballero 0

The Villa “Zum tüfen Graben” lies in a cove at the lake Zurich. The whole ensemble consisting of the villa, a barn and a classical garden with two garden pavilions is protected by the preservation order. The villa is divided into two apartments; one of the apartments is let. The clients asked Urben Seyboth Architects for a study for additional accommodation units. The study revealed that the depth of engagement of the historic and protected structure of the villa would be massive and the costs, in consideration of the statutory requirements by the preservation order, disproportional. Urben Seyboth Architects advised the client to build a new construction on the empty space located eastward of the villa.

Freshwater Art House / David Boyle Architect

May 8, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

In Freshwater Art House we have curated a series of interlocking cubic volumes for living and for the making and displaying of art. Mezzanines and stepped floor levels spill down from the existing house into the garden and parkland beyond the site. Spaces are distilled with an idea that you could set up anywhere within the house and create. In response to the ubiquitous knockdown and project home rebuild in Sydney’s northern beaches, including several properties within this street, this project celebrates the existing, much loved c1928 timber bungalow by retaining it in its entirety. The rear rooms act as platforms to view and access the new work. The original external weatherboard and fiber cement façade become the interior of the new spaces.

AU Dormitory / TERRAIN architects

May 8, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

A dormitory was built as a residential school for 50students from sub-Saharan Africa to prepare them for entering universities abroad. It is located in a rapidly urbanizing town, 13km from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. It stands right on the equator but high above sea-level. The building is designed to respond, simply, to the climate, with tall walls positioned East-West to maximize shade, and large openings facing South and North – that bring wind and light deep into the rooms. It comprised of classrooms, both male and female dormitories, staff quarters, a canteen, kitchen and also office for staff.
