The small house is situated on an island on the south coast of Norway. The site is characterized by smooth and curved rocks that goes down towards the ocean. The house is built for two artists that wanted a house for contemplation and working.

Initially the clients Ken & Wendy didn’t have any plans to build a new house. But when Wendy and her brother each inherited a construction site, Wendy and her husband changed their minds. Both working, Wendy and Ken wished to come home to an open and spacious architecture, filled with loads of natural daylight where human interactions are set central.

The PAN-cabins are rental cabins made special for the client PAN-tretopphytter. The project is located in the eastern forest area of Norway, called Finnskogen, after Finish immigrants steeling here in the 16th century. The cabins are made as an intuitive response to the client’s will and vision of having unique Architecture with an almost mythological link to the place, landscape, and Nordic forests. The cabins are planed with retreat-qualities that offer the possibility for a comfortable stay all alone in the middle of the wild nature of Norway.

The site is located on the edge of the village, facing small mountains. Compared with nearby sites with the same shape and area, the project site had an irregular shape and relatively big area. Considering that unique site conditions, the architect had to think over several site plan options with the view of the whole village. The client suggested a square plan because he liked the simple form and also because it can be a good way of reducing construction costs. The architect agreed it would be a simple but powerful declaration in a new town, to put a simple volume on the edge of the village.
