Urban Restoration of Los Bajos Park / EMAC

November 1, 2019 Pilar Caballero 0

The environment of “Los Bajos” is located in an intermediate space, between the boulevard and the city, the sea and the countryside, the square and the city, but it was turning its back on everything and everyone, it was a “no place”. Its fenced perimeter formed an edge, an island outside its surroundings that prevented any type of urban and socio-cultural relationship. Returning the city a landscape and the citizen a place of relation were the inseparable objectives of this proposal.

Bolshaya Morskaya Street / AB CHVOYA + AM TRI

A part of Bolshaya Morskaya Street, located between Nevsky Prospekt and the Arch of the General Staff Building in Saint-Petersburg, is a small yet important part of the main city ensemble and the threshold of Palace Square. The almost complete absence of traffic load is combined with increased pedestrian traffic – this part of the street is the main connection between Nevsky Prospekt and Palace Square. In turn, Palace Square unites a complex of museum buildings of the Hermitage, which allows us to consider the Bolshaya Morskaya street as the open-air “avant sale” of the museum.

Songjeong Picture book Village is a project to design a plaza, a bus stop and a visitor center in Songjeong Village, a small town in South Korea. It was the beginning of winter when we first visited the village with officials. Although the site was dilapidated with the bare trees and damaged bus stop, the simple houses of 30 families and the old trees made it possible to imagine the beautiful scenery of springtime.

October 11, 2019 Collin Chen 0

Kokaistudios’ recent urban renewal project in Anting saw the upgrading and refurbishment of the satellite town’s central square. Through a series of interventions, including a landmark centerpiece, the design connects the oversized space to its environs by extending and defining its four axes. The effect has proven transformative, elevating the once underused, ill-equipped space from an empty expanse, to a vibrant hub.

The name of the Siberian town Divnogorsk located 35 km from Krasnoyarsk appeared from a word combination “divnye gory” meaning “amazing mountains”. And indeed the panoramic view from the riverfront captures the imagination! The opposite bank of the Yenisei River appears in front of the audience as a high wall of the spurs of the West Sayan Mountains with expressive rock formations and pine forests.
