Located in downtown Portland, the Karl Miller Center, home to Portland State University’s School of Business, is uniquely integrated with the city’s rich network of public spaces and diverse urban uses. But that wasn’t always the case. The original building —a 100,000-square-foot 1970’s structure in which students had nowhere to gather for “informal” learning, faculty offices were separated from classrooms and student spaces, and access to daylight and fresh air was minimal —did not reflect the University’s students, faculty, or commitment to its sustainability curriculum.

The Bayes Centre is a pivotal piece of the University of Edinburgh’s estate set to transform Edinburgh city center into one of UK’s most dynamic places for tech, attracting the highest caliber of international experts in data science and artificial intelligence. The 9,500sq m building is part of the University’s investment into world-class facilities on its Potterrow campus, following the much-lauded Informatics Forum and Dugald Stewart Buildings designed and delivered by the practice’s Edinburgh studio in 2008.

IIM-B New Classroom Complex

The classroom block is proposed above an existing building along the main movement axis of the campus. The primary design intent of the classroom block was to strike a chord with the existing campus. The existing columns were strengthened and some new columns were added along the periphery of the proposed building without obstructing the existing building.

Rutgers University-Camden: Nursing and Science Building / Perkins Eastman

After several decades of disinvestment and decline, the City of Camden, New Jersey, has recently shown a commitment to revitalization and community-building. This commitment is realized in the new Rutgers University-Camden: Nursing and Science Building. The building announces the seriousness of purpose about the revitalization efforts underway that are positioning Camden as a major player in “eds and meds.”

Georgetown University / LEGORRETA

The Georgetown University’s Campus in Qatar of the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service is integrated within the Northern side of the Education City Campus. The adjacent building to the West is the Central Library and to the Southwest the Student Center, also designed by LEGORRETA. To the South lies the Heritage Ruin and a Park with a strong visual and conceptual connection achieved by landscape design and orientation of the building.

Elegant and resolute, the Student Development Center (SDC) at Florida Polytechnic University (FPU) in Lakeland, Florida, USA, portrays the creative spirit and interactive vibe of a blooming academic and research community located in an emerging technology corridor. With a form inspired by the student-selected mascot and a material palette aligned with Santiago Calatrava’s signature Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) Building and original campus master plan, the facility emboldens students, faculty, staff and extended community members to advance their wellness and academic pursuits.
