Techno parks, Technology Development Zones or Innovation Centers are similar terminologies describing specially designated areas where research institutions or innovative companies developing new technologies are fostered by some legal and financial encouragements. In Turkey, the development of such techno parks first initiated within university campus areas where industry and university can work together. Recently Turkish government started to designate new technological development zones not only in university campuses but also in the outskirts of large cities. These areas not only have special legal and financial advantages but they also have rather flexible building codes. The innovative characters of the companies and favorable building regulations enable more exciting and fresh architectural examples to flourish in these areas. ERA Architects was selected by a client to design the headquarters in the new Istanbul Technopark Campus.

August 20, 2019 Collin Chen 0

This project deals with the conservation and extension of Xianghui Hall at Fudan University. Xianghui Hall is located at the conservation area of Fudan University. It is a key historical building, which witnessed the development of Fudan University and held many academic conferences as well as political meetings including the visit of the former US president Ronald Reagan to China in 1984. It is also once the appointed background of the graduation photo of Fudan students. However, as time goes by, it has lost its original importance. Except that the second floor still acts marginally as the ceremony hall, the ground floor has become the place for storage, renting facilities and retailing. The conservation of Xianghui Hall is intended to reveal its historical value, use value and cultural value.

The School Clinic for psychology and physiotherapy of the Vale do Salgado College is located in the city of Icó, which lies in an architectural site that dates back to the 18th century. It is encompassed by the dry steppe-like climate of the state of Ceará. Being located at the limit of the heritage perimeter, the building had to comply with some guidelines imposed by IPHAN, Brazil’s federal government heritage register. The guidelines include following the city’s color palette, using local materials on the facades, a maximum height of 7 meters, and setting the building at the very limit of the land plot, without any frontal recoil.
