Mariposa Garden House / Renée del Gaudio
Mariposa Garden House transforms a 1940s ranch home into a house of gardens and light. The new construction is built on top of the existing concrete foundation of the former home. The reuse of this foundation was seen not as a constraint, but as an opportunity. The project succeeds in its restrained approach to energy, materials, and size. The design minimally increases the original 1,750 square foot layout with higher ceilings, an open floor plan, and deep connections to the landscape.
How Could a House Work in a Post Climate Change Scenario?
Climatic conditions are changing around the world, and with more extreme temperatures and limited resources, architectural and urban solutions must also change. How could our homes look and function effectively in a post-climate change scenario? Analyzing in detail the forecasts of these climatic variations, the architects of W-LAB have developed a Low-Tech habitat proposal for humid, hot, and arid climates, incorporating bio-materials, transportable solutions, and configurations that promote life in small and resilient communities.

Youngstorget 3 Office Building / Hille Melbye Arkitekter
“Youngstorget 3” is designed as a social arena, as a meeting place of a magnitude of possibilities, providing Oslo with spaces for new activities and urban life. The project addresses various topics within a circular economy, social sustainability, and the future of the workplace, all with the ambition of creating a long-lasting house that interacts well with its surroundings – culturally, historically, and aesthetically. The building is BREEAM-certified, highly energy-efficient, and uses various passive systems for heating and cooling.
80 Charlotte Street / Make Architects
Make Architects has completed Derwent London’s largest-ever project, a mixed-use scheme with 321,000ft2 of office space and 45,000ft2 of residential accommodation including social housing. Located at 80 Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia, the project is inherently urban in its integration of the city and street context, both in its massing and composition. The inclusion of a small new public garden and retail add to this civic quality.
Praça4 Apartments / Hype Studio
Praça4 was designed with the purpose of using Architecture to connect people with nature, with their neighbors, and with the city. The building has compact units and very generous common spaces, creating a cozy and efficient place for its dwellers – along with a unique experience when you leave or arrive at home.
Greenhouses as Spaces for Coexistence between Nature and People
Researchers point out that “proto-greenhouses” arose to fulfill the desire of the Roman Emperor Tiberius (42 BC to 37 AD) to eat cucumbers every day of the year. Since it was impossible to grow the vegetable on the island of Capri in winter, his gardeners developed beds mounted on wheels that they would move into the sun when possible, while on winter days they would place them under translucent covers made of Selenite (a type of gypsum with a glassy appearance). But the production of large-scale greenhouses only became possible after the Industrial Revolution with the availability of mass-produced glass sheets. Since then, they have been used to grow food and flowers, forming a microclimate suitable for plant species even in places with severe climates. But in some cases, these artificial growing conditions can also form interesting living spaces. The recent Lacaton & Vassal awards rekindled this interest. How is it possible to create greenhouses that can be good for both humans and plants?
Flora Apartments / Belatchew Arkitekter
Flora is a residential building in one of Stockholm’s most expansive districts — Midsommarkransen. Situated on the main street Bäckvägen, the building enhances the street’s expression while adding a contemporary element. The ground floor has room for a café at one end of the sloping plot, and underneath the building is a garage.
