Rehabilitation of the Vapor Cortès. Prodis 1933 / HARQUITECTES

January 19, 2026 Pilar Caballero 0

The new Prodis headquarters is located in old industrial buildings that were originally part of the Vapor Cortès. The buildings are made up of the traditional perimeter structure of ceramic brick load-bearing walls following a regular rhythm of pilasters and openings every 3 meters. The 12-meter span of the buildings is covered by wooden trusses -some quite affected by roof leaks- that follow the same rhythm as the pilasters. The roof also follows the traditional structure of wooden straps and battens topped with Arabic tiles.

The “beating heart” of the Multnomah County Library system – because it keeps the entire system running – the new Operations Center is essential for effectively managing more than 500,000 catalogue materials and outreach services. This adaptive reuse project transformed a vacant 1995 grocery store into a bustling 73,000-square-foot workplace in vehicle-dominated east Portland. The Operations Center is the first project to meet Multnomah County’s ambitious fossil fuel-free buildings resolution and anticipates LEED Gold certification as well as Living Future Net-Zero Energy certification. The design prominently features more than 600 solar panels that will fully offset the building’s energy use.

Brooklands is a new workplace campus in central Cambridge, containing the city’s first major Net Zero Carbon* office building. It fills a gap in the Cambridge workspace market, meeting tenant expectations for high-quality space while at the same time offering sustainable, characterful buildings that contribute to the city. 6,000 sqm of flexible workspace is arranged across two buildings (B1 and B2) around a courtyard garden, linked by a colonnade. Brooklands aligns closely with the government’s strategic growth agenda for Cambridge and its ambition to boost the knowledge economy. Growth in Cambridge is not limited to expanding the city’s fringes; it also involves optimizing existing urban areas and bringing underused sites to life in a sustainable and sensitive way.
