Courtyard No. 1 / AOE

As China’s development and urbanization continues, property developers have begun to expand into new markets such as third and fourth-tier cities. Sales offices have become an important conduit for them to demonstrate their brand’s strength and design philosophy. These offices are not only community activity centers and lounge areas for client communication, but also a promotional window to attract more clients to buy properties.

The wise finds pleasure in water; the virtuous seeks pleasure in hills. An elegant, peaceful and silent scenario based in the power of water and hill landscaping is what our design trys to pursue in this project. The shape of the roof ridges is a mimic of the mountain-silhouette while the buildings embrace the silent water, which reflects the mountain shades. With tree branches and leaves waving in the wind, trails winding and turning upon the free-flowing water underneath, the sunken courtyards and theme clubhouse all add silence and coziness to the recluse life in the nature.

In design, we often need to take care of two opposite principles at the same time, release while controlling, lift when putting down, retreat when advancing, and break while continuing. At a time when the characteristic of most of the start-up areas tends to be unified, how to create the architectural form of ‘not stacking symbols and not monotonously repeating’ through the combination of traditional culture and modern aesthetics will be a widely discussed proposition. We hope to find a way to really make the design bigger while smaller, lighter while heavier, deeper while lighter, and more modern while traditional, because all elements can finally find a way to coexist, and all exploration is essentially a lovely fantasy for the next wave.

Located close to Chongqing Central Park. Architectural design reinterprets traditional space essence in modern language. Generally, it follows the traditional space layout featuring axial symmetry, front hall and backyard, and multiple courtyards. Walls, columns, and eaves are used to create courtyards and enframed scenery in different sizes and levels of openness.

City, Architecture, Street
The ‘Yeonmujang Road’ is 10 meter-wide and 1.2-km long road that runs through the center of ‘‘Seongsu-dong’’. Buildings on this road become larger as you walk from the East to the West. Small businesses such as hairdressers, launderette and letting agencies are located in these small building and larger building are occupied with factories. There is a mixture of both residential and industrial atmosphere on this road. Anterior aspects of these small buildings are occupied with small businesses mentioned above and rear/posterior aspects of these building are residential properties with small courtyards. From an architect’s point of view, these small courts have huge development potential.
