Hunan Street Public Service Station / Steamarch

December 24, 2023 Pilar Caballero 0

The Hunan Street Public Service Station is located in the center of Shanghai. The original building was composed of public toilets, a garbage transfer station and a janitor’s lounge. With the development of tourism and urban regeneration in recent years, the original building has become increasingly difficult to meet the requirements of the public and the authority in terms of external image and internal functional configuration. After the public call for proposals, professional evaluation and public voting, our renovation plan was successfully won and implemented.

Blurring 2 Attics Renovation / Bajet Giramé

December 24, 2023 Valeria Silva 0

This project of 2 interconnected premises between two friends in an attic in Poblenou, Barcelona, is linked to the practice of the loft as a paradigm of the free appropriation of space, in a tectonic, political, and temporal sense. Traditional boundaries, such as ownership or spheres of leisure, work, and life, are superimposed and blurred. Places of intimacy for each individual coexist, as well as spaces for sharing. Relationships are produced through thresholds that also regulate climatic interactions between an interior and an exterior that are also diluted.

Yazawa Hanoi Restaurant / Takashi Niwa Architects

Yazawa Hanoi -The Scenery with Iron – The fascination of yakiniku (Japanese style BBQ) is to enjoy the way raw meat changes its state as it is cooked on the griddle. Yazawa Yakiniku Restaurant puts great effort into its ingredients and meat grilling equipment, especially its griddle and grill, which directly leads to the quality of its food. In considering the design for their new restaurant in Hanoi, iron as a material for multiple uses was focused on creating an original place that encompasses everything from the landscape of the food to the architectural space. The iron itself and the things that are being changed by the iron are contrasted and fused. A landscape scene expressed by cast iron, Bengala (iron oxide pigment), iron bars, and plates, as well as spaces colored by iron, was created to let things, people, and spaces interact with each other. The site is a typical French villa in Hanoi that has been renovated and extended repeatedly. Renovating the building by giving it the power of iron in various forms creates a contrast between old and new.

Maria i el Pablo House / OBO Estudi

December 22, 2023 Pilar Caballero 0

A young couple with one child and another in the pipeline bought a self-built home in the Floresta Pearson neighborhood of Sant Cugat del Vallès. The house, with a ground floor and basement, adapts to the rugged topography by forming two platforms. The lower one, accessed from the road, contains a courtyard used as a vegetable garden, a car park, and some small spaces for storage. The upper one, next to a slope that denies all the winter sun, divides its space between the dwelling itself and a garden with a swimming pool that borders the surroundings of the Collserola Natural Park. The proposal must act in two directions: to achieve the necessary habitability to quickly occupy the dwelling and subsequently extend the building while generating the right relations with the immediate surroundings.
