House K / Kii inc.

We designed a residence that doubles as a workspace in a 50-year-old apartment building on high ground in the heart of the city. The building stands on a hillside in the shape of a mortar facing a nearby river. Because of the change in zoning across the road, there are no tall buildings in front of the apartment, and the balcony offers a wide view of the city stretching out to the horizon, merging with the sky.

Sa Taronja House / beef architekti

Sa Taronja is a unique place in the town of Andratx, nestled at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains on the island of Mallorca. Up until the late 1990s, it was the largest chicken farm in the Balearic Islands, established in the 1960s by the Burgos family. In 1997, a German painter named Hartmut Usadel was passing by when he saw a for-sale sign on the farm. Inspired, he bought it and turned it into his art studio. But Hartmut’s vision didn’t stop there. He transformed the farm into an informal gallery and cultural center, welcoming artists from around the world to create and showcase their work. The three original 80-meter-long chicken coops became studios, a gallery, and even a small theater. One of the center’s crowning moments was hosting a concert by the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. After Hartmut’s passing, his close friend Tina Horne managed the center until 2017, when a new owner took over with the vision of continuing Sa Taronja’s cultural legacy. Stepping into a space with such a rich history was quite a challenge.

Bananeira Apartment / Angá Arquitetura + Estúdio Pedro Luna

Located in an old building from the 1970s, the apartment had an outdated layout that didn’t make sense for the residents: a closed kitchen, a maid’s room, and three bedrooms. Furthermore, the apartment’s more classic style, with dark wood floors and plaster ceiling, did not reflect their personalities.

Château Cantenac Brown / ( apm ) & associés

June 10, 2024 Hadir Al Koshta 0

A spectacular testimony to the Scottish roots of its founder John Lewis Brown, Cantenac Brown’s emblematic Tudor-style château makes it one of the most remarkable properties of the 1855 classified grands crus. Scottish sheep reign supreme in its expansive parkland. The 75 hectares of vines that surround the Château are spread over the prestigious Margaux and Cantenac plateaux, offering a wine balanced between flesh and tension: full-bodied and velvety with a long finish. Upon his family’s acquisition of Château Cantenac Brown in 2019, Tristan Le Lous became the custodian of this heritage, vowing to safeguard the property’s high standards and quality. A future project was thus unveiled: the building of a cellar from raw earth and untreated wood.

In Bordeaux, the transformation and rehabilitation of the Hôtel des Ventes des Chartrons breathe new life into this historic building. Designed with architectural recycling principles, and minimizing demolition, the project reimagines this structure for dual purposes: a higher education institution and an auction hall.

The project takes place in the building attached to the Museum of Arts. It is a construction with an irregular floor plan, with 2 opposite fronts, made up of a basement, ground floor and three upper floors, which in a previous phase was the result of a significant structural consolidation. Also, the result of a previous phase is a staircase and an elevator that run around the building on the outside, on the north façade.

apm Gallery in Haikou GAOXINGLI / Dazhou And Associates

May 19, 2024 Pilar Caballero 0

In early 2021, the Noya team proposed the renovation scheme of Haikou GAOXINGLI. Dazhou and Associates has completed the design of two iconic buildings, NOYARD and APM. Situated on the east side of the block, apm, was a newly built two-story building with a pitched roof. We intend to transform it into a small-scale community art gallery, infusing contemporary art into the community and driving vitality on the east side of the block.

Plans for the renovation of a space that used to be a parking lot into offices. Kyoto has a long history of creating “mise-tana” and “machi-tana” to connect with the city, and it seems that the ground floor has always been regarded as a special place. In designing the building, we considered the continuity from the ground to connect the inside and outside of the building with the sidewalk so that the “openness and locality of the ground floor” would be connected.
