The El Nido project is located in the center of the great Peruvian coastal desert, between the districts of Lurín and Pachacamac on the southern outskirts of the city of Lima. It is an extensive and fertile valley inhabited since pre-Hispanic times by the culture of the same name, among others.
The Design District on the Greenwich Peninsula is a one-hectare riverside site with 16 new buildings that will provide an affordable base for creative businesses to trade, interact and grow. Eight emerging architectural practices from across Europe were each given a pair of buildings and asked to work blind, without knowing what the others were designed. The result is a provocative diversity of color and form in a new neighbourhood devoted to design, art, tech, craft, and music. In this kind of undefined and evolving context, devoid of urban references, the project defines two very pragmatic buildings – industrial containers that maximize the flexibility of the interior and explore the use of basic construction systems. The project plays with the imagination of an artist’s studio, emphasizing the use of light in a workspace defined by large windows, double-height rooms, and certain raw materiality.
With a real estate market always under pressure and the growing attraction of Paris both locally and globally, small housing is becoming an undeniable reality in the French capital. Small apartments and related challenges have become all the more relevant in the context of lockdown when people need to study and work from home. As architects, our mission is to take an active part in the urban changes with high-quality projects in line with the current issues.
The boutique Warszauer Hotel has been opened at 10 Warszauera Street in Krakow’s Kazimierz, the former Jewish district and one of Krakow’s most attractive tourist districts. The hotel building is located on a narrow frontage plot between an old 4-story tenement house and the 17th-century Kupa Synagogue, but complementing the existing downtown development.
Old Stream House is making reference to an old river bed, which now is a big and dense forest. This is where the volume is placed, an asymmetrical gabled house, containing a big living room, with the kitchen and dining room merged in the center. While on each side, through the living room and the access to the house, there are the main bedrooms.
Located in the city center of Guatemala, the twin houses are nestled in a gated community. Gated communities and houses enclosed by high walls are common in the city to provide needed security. The high walls of these houses, however, make it almost impossible to enjoy the beauty of diversity and interaction between neighboring houses.
The Chibougamau-Chapais airport is the gateway to the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region. It services a large territory that includes the communities of Chibougamau, Chapais, and Oujé-Bougoumou. Faced with growing passenger traffic, a new terminal building was deemed necessary to meet the increasing demand. The new terminal was designed according to the latest standards to provide a seamless passenger experience and to express the aspirations and culture of the communities it services.
Located in a privileged place within a privileged enclave, the Asu houses are designed to be interpreted as a clear scheme of single-family homes which dance to the same rhythm, a composition of moving volumes caused by adaptation to the slight and subtle but noticeable unevenness, who maintain their independence from each other as part of the same family. This slight movement confers kindness to the volume, dynamism, and visual richness, avoiding becoming a rough and cold volume.
Launched in 1957, Sputnik was the first man-made satellite to orbit the Earth. This unassuming four-legged sphere circled our planet for three months before disintegrating in the atmosphere and occasioned the awkward period we know as the Space Race, during which the Soviet Union and the USA competed for astronautic supremacy.
Located in a typical street of the Valencian neighborhood of El Cabañal, the Mirasol house is recovered as a singular piece of this important seaside district of the city of Valencia. A modest, unpretentious, and anonymous construction that follows the characteristic typology of those old fishermen’s houses that once shaped the streets of the neighborhood.
