Jinghope · Life Aesthetics Community / Various Associates

December 10, 2023 Valeria Silva 0

The Jinghope · Life Aesthetics Community adopts a design direction different from the popular Beach Club at The Sanya EDITION, which features bamboo-woven structures designed by Various Associates earlier. In this project, the focus is on creating a seamless connection with the hotel’s overall vibe and balancing the needs of the hotel and the new businesses. The Jinghope · Life Aesthetics Community connects with the main entrance of the hotel and stands in the circulation route leading to the guest room area, injecting vitality into the public space through the addition of a new circulation. The newly built spiral staircase connects the ground floor to the second floor, directing visitors from the ground floor to the commercial space. Nestled amidst lush vegetation, the open-air contemplation and relaxation areas seamlessly integrate with the indoors.

The owners are a middle-aged couple working in the urban area of Beijing. In 2022, they rented two small houses near Jingdong Grand Canyon in Pinggu, a suburb of Beijing, they wanted to transform the house into a warm, pastoral homestay. In the conversation with the owner, I was deeply impressed by the “Fruit of Life” she mentioned, which is a Japanese documentary about the three meals and four seasons of two couples. Although we have not been to the site, we have already had a general imagination of the design through the early communication. Arriving at the site for the first time, I was attracted by the mountain and surrounding natural environment surrounded by the project. However, the current situation of the original building is not ideal. The two houses are located at the corner of the road, backed by the mountain, and the interior and courtyard Spaces are completely exposed to the view of people when they go down the mountain. The building is a typical northern rural self-built house, and the appearance and functional layout are too rough and simple. How to communicate with the surrounding landscape, create rich Interior and outdoor Spaces, and create a comfortable and natural pastoral space atmosphere has become the focus of the renovation design.

The building was created as an attempt to recycle materials that we had available from previous constructions and from family members who had stored them for decades – larch terrace boards, spruce facade boards, profiles for the construction of the foundations, windows, and most of the insulation materials. We were also able to borrow shroud boards, light equipment, etc., so the building was largely self-built with the help of friends and family.

House on the Slope / Chaoffice

This architectural endeavor embodies a poetic symphony of change and diversity, a dwelling that hosts three generations, a family of nine. While the dwelling primarily cradles the two elders, it metamorphoses into a lively space during weekends, festivals, and the radiant embrace of summer, welcoming the laughter of children. This 400-square-meter place should serve old and young, every family member, and also a place that allows humans to find solace in the company of others. Rather than crafting a singular, imposing structure, our aim is to create a reminiscence of the intricate scenes portrayed in the paintings of Peter Bruegel, where every detail weaves its own unique story into the fabric of existence. In a world dominated by standardized living spaces, how do we provide a realm where diverse forms, scales, and the interplay of light and shadow bring forth a rich tapestry of life? Our exploration unfolds through staggered sequences, unveiling possibilities for a living narrative that thrives on variation.

Running water carves incredible formations and the grandest canyons from impregnable and mightiest rocks. This truth inspired the architects when tasked with designing this multi-generational villa with a dense program. The clients approached the architects to design a home that prioritizes tranquility, open spaces, abundant natural light, and privacy. The program required the entire extent of the site to be built up, resulting in a volumetrically dense massing.

For the Quebec Fast Food Chain “Jack Le Coq” (French for “Jack the Rooster”), the Interior Design Firm XY CONTEMPORARY took inspiration from the restaurant’s owner, Jack Gaspo. Jack’s creative direction for the design team at XY Contemporary was to draw inspiration from typical 50s diners and infuse it with modern decor elements, not typically attributed to color.
