New Headquarters of the Shalom Community / Brasil Arquitetura

April 22, 2019 Daniel Tapia 0

Build a supportive and Pacific world just will be possible with the reunion from all people ‘stones’. Two big concrete walls (cyclopean on appearance). Built with a large variety of stones, from different origins and colors – sandstone, granite, basalt, marble, limestone, etc. – will structure physical and symbolically the new Shalom community center. Stones that perpetuate the memories from a time (or time memories), brought from most different nooks by everyone that take part from Shalom community activities.

A house with many inhabitants. A collaborative project between VGC, ADO Icarus and the City of Brussels includes public programme with a podium, local service centre, community center and a library. These public functions are traditionally arranged adjacent to one another around a public space – e.g. a square – each with its own front door and its own interpretation of the transition from public to private space, from openness to seclusion, depending on the specific context of each function.

This community center provides spaces under a large continuous folding roof for events, performances, shops and play. Completed in February 2019, this 1,300 square metre building will act as a local gathering place for chance encounters, leisure and community engagements for those who live in and around the neighbourhood. Called the Buzz.ar, the project was commissioned by a local developer who requested for a ‘place-making’ intervention that will form part of the new mass housing and commercial quarter that it is developing in Kota Kemuning, a township about 20 kilometres to the southwest of Kuala Lumpur.

Germina Foundation / b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos

April 1, 2019 Pilar Caballero 0

Germina Foundation is an organization that works with children and young people at risk of social exclusion, caring for them, monitoring and reinforcing their education, and providing educational support for their training and future entry into the labor market. This monitoring process, which aims to build a bond by engaging participants through complementary programs from the moment they arrive as young children up until their entry into the workforce, needed to have a space where it could accommodate its three key age groups in three areas that could be either connected or independent. The program for the building also had to house the organization’s administrative staff. Improving the neighborhood’s social fabric, community action, and collaboration with local organizations through workshops, courses, and other social activities are also among the foundation’s aims.
