In 2009, in the southern zone of Yucatán, in México, a group of young students, sons, and daughters of Mayan farmers belonging to the rural community of Dzán, whose economic support consists mainly in the farming of citrus, moved by their “change their world” reckless enthusiasm, took the action into working together through science and culture with the purpose of inspiring the most vulnerable sector of the population: children and young adolescents, whose school dropout, substance abuse rates and lacking vocation were rising. That’s how they decided to found the Scientific Community of Dzán, a non-profit organization that pursuits the empowerment of their own community through the making of life projects with science and culture as the main tools for that.

Xiangyang Village is a universal name that bears a sense of time in China, and there is more than one Xiangyang Village in Shanghai. The village locates at the border of Shanghai, adjacent to Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. The different development patterns resulted in contrasting scenes in two terrains: the Xiangyang Village has wide-open farmland. Kunshan, just one street away, has many high-rises overlooking the village in Shanghai, predominantly agricultural. As one of the first nine model villages for rural revitalization in Shanghai, Xiangyang proposed new industrial upgrading and social governance ideas. The broader context of its development is still the village in Shanghai, which is different from rural imagery but also preserves the countryside landscape, which requires a balance between urban and rural, traditional and contemporary.

And this is Luis Vidal + architects approach to what responsible design means: A contribution to the social dialogue with an environmental commitment. The result is an unprecedented building refurbishment that gives back to the city of Santiago de Chile one of its most iconic constructions. Past, present, and future merge in a building that combines modernity with tradition, technology with sustainability, innovation with respect for the city’s heritage.

Warot Building / B-ILD

Warot Building is the latest addition to the public facilities of the village of Winksele. It hosts a wide range of activities in a carefully designed multifunctional hall. The building is situated on an existing sports campus that is surrounded by rural landscape and public facilities. The large bay window and the covered outdoor space activate the adjoining fields for play.

Waterfront Clubhhouse / Abin Design Studio

As a policy towards promotion of sports and extra-curricular activities, Bengal’s state Government offered a sum of 2 lakh rupees to all state clubs and associations in early 2017. Football has always been an integral part of the cultural fabric of Bansberia. One of the local coaching clubs approached Abin Design Studio to build a clubhouse made especially to facilitate young passionate footballers in the area.

Enhancing the social and leisure offer in the local area, Mæ’s completion of the Sands End Arts and Community Centre in Fulham will be a welcome addition to the local community. Sited beside the Clancarty Lodge in the northwestern corner of South Park, the centre caters to a wide range of users; providing a café alongside spaces for social and educational functions, clubs, and events. With a view to ensuring long term viability, dedicated nursery facilities have also been included in the scheme.
