The raw beauty of forest and river combined with the warmth and comfort of small historic wooden summer houses with pitched roofs are the main characteristics of resort town Ogre, that inspired the new community library. The new building was carefully placed on the hilly site to preserve as much natural forest cover as possible. The idea of the new building staying behind the trees and looking through them resembles the bit shy and introverted nature of Latvians.

Welfare develops Community, and Community develops Welfare. Built on a hilltop-looking Mt. Fuji, this is a group home for people with intellectual disabilities, under a big umbrella where everyone in the area can easily gather.  The operator is trying to make a new welfare facility that is deeply rooted in the local community, by operating this not only as a group home, but also as a children’s cafeteria, a meeting place for senior clubs, and an evacuation place.  To that end, architecture sought a way of building that would foster connections with the surrounding area beyond the site boundaries.

“We are convinced that real architecture will leave an indelible trace in our minds by only elementary architectural action”. Today, architectural design for commercial spaces is expected and driven to try to communicate visually with users, or as a tool to attract people to spaces through visualization, photography, and social statement inevitably. In particular, restaurant and café type programs often borrow the other language of architecture to attract customers. But as a design worker in Chiang Mai, A city in which such businesses are driven by an architecture that requires Instagramable, is it necessary to question the situation through the design work? at least in order not to overlook the true essence of our profession.

Ebury Edge comprises temporary affordable workspaces, a café, and a community center to provide a continuous place for residents old and new to meet as the Ebury Bridge Estate is re-developed phase by phase. The Ebury Bridge Estate had been identified by Westminster City Council as urgently requiring improvement to homes and the external environment. Working closely with a representative steering group, the City Council first established a right of return for all residents before developing proposals for the redevelopment of the estate. Unusually, Westminster is committed to the delivery of new community facilities in advance of the principal scheme.

Walirumana Ethno Educational Center / Salba

Walirumana Ethno Educational and Entrepreneurship Center is located 20 kilometers north of Uribia, established on the side of the road that leads to Puerto Colombia, in the department of La Guajira. The socio-environmental conditions in which many of these Wayuu communities live are complex. The desert that extends throughout this region to Venezuelan territory is a determining factor that has impeded the normal development of this native culture. The difficulty to generate an economy of production and consumption, the lack of infrastructure to communicate and provide basic services, added to other factors, has generated very difficult living conditions. The ethnoeducation and entrepreneurship centers materialize the three pillars of the foundation in charge of the project, Proyecto Guajira. Education, development, and basic social assistance are essential to generate a real change, and under this premise, an architecture model is proposed that aims to impact various communities in the upper Guajira by providing adequate space for these activities.

This project is aimed at renovating a historic site into a community center for a residential complex. The main goals are to remove the sense of secrecy and confidentiality associated with the old KMT facility, to establish a feeling of openness, but still maintain a level of control and enclosure. Using the area’s abundance of trees, grass and plants, we also decided that we would synergize the modern, open architecture with the green nature around it. Therefore, trees and bushes of all sizes are dispersed throughout the complex.
