July 11, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

Seongbuk-dong Share Kitchen Remodeling – ‘Assisi’ is a small town in the central area of Italy, and it is famous for buildings that were built by piling up bright colored building stones. The building owner visited this area a few years back and wanted to reflect on the feelings from the trip while remodeling an old house in the village of Seongbuk-dong. The exotic impression of ‘Little Assisi,’ a shared kitchen designed by remodeling an old house, began from this mind. In the façade acquainted with the alley, a material that reminds of Assisi was selected to show a fresh design that is hard to find nearby. In addition, all the rooms were demolished to use as a shared kitchen and designed so that the cooking process and meals can be enjoyed in a wide space.

Located on the shores of Lake St.Louis in Grande-Anse park, the reconstruction of the Baie-de-Valois Chalet is part of a shore revitalization project claimed by Pointe-Claire citizens. The building incorporates a large community hall as well as spaces to enhance the experience and water sports activities offered to over 4000 citizens and visitors who visit this area yearly. Inspired by the geological stratification of the site, the project reflects the surrounding landscape; the angled roof is reminiscent of a tree canopy, the wood cladding embodies the rhythm of tree trunks in a wooden area, and the base of the building represents the geometry of a rocky shoreline.

Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre / Rizvi Hassan

May 31, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre tries to fight back for the lost identity of her community. And to fight for mental well-being through all the creative ways possible. To hold on to the good practices, and not the evil ones that today’s world is filled with. The building process itself tried to make sure of that from the beginning. To create stories and care that everyone can hold on to. It doesn’t try to create certainty, but the strength of being in love again after the worst nightmares. The Rohingya community has gone through changes & unsettlement throughout their lives. The current situation, being in the largest refugee camps, has added a bit more uncertainty to their lifestyle, as it has influenced their culture & values. It is the ongoing events that will shape what they have.
