The Alpharetta Art Center repurposes a 10,000 sf public library, designed in 1986 by Atlanta architect Anthony Ames. A cornerstone of the City of Alpharetta’s “Garden and Arts District”, the structure and grounds feature improved pedestrian circulation through a park-like landscape, with sculptures, outdoor gathering and performance spaces, and new connections back to Alpharetta’s burgeoning downtown. Active studio production programs will relocate to the new center and will benefit from larger studios with controllable, natural light and a large gallery and black box theater to engage the community.

Trentham Opposite The Station / sense of space

June 24, 2023 Valeria Silva 0

This small-scale regional project is made unique through civic generosity and community-mindedness. TOTS comprises 5 commercial tenancies and one house occupied by the developer, whose goal was to make a positive contribution to the community of Trentham whilst creating an income stream for retirement. Located opposite the former Trentham railway station and the town’s only petrol station, this development extends the commercial precinct from the high street shops one block away, consolidating the main activity center and contributing to the charming village feel and tourism potential of this small rural town. The residence that makes up the southern end of the development is a contemporary, stripped-back take on a traditional double-fronted Victorian cottage, and through its considered detailing and use of recycled brick it begins the transition in architectural language from the neighboring dwellings to the commercial zone addressing the corner.

Eyemouth Pavilions is a new public anchor at the heart of the Scottish fishing town Eyemouth. It is also an opportunity to reinvent the wider harbor area and create a new type of civic space. We were inspired by the strong authenticity of the working Harbour and Conservation Area, and the harbour’s active transformation towards a new sustainable marine economy. The project consists of a series of pavilions with winter gardens on the ground floor for community use, and self-contained studios for start-up entrepreneurs on the first floor. The first south pavilion is now completed.

Nanjing, renowned as the ancient capital of six dynasties, has seen urbanization mainly on the south bank of the Yangtze River. In 2015, in order to give full play to the city’s leading role in innovation-driven development and new urbanization, and promote the development of south Jiangsu and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the State Council officially approved the establishment of the nearly 788 km2 Jiangbei New District, kicking off large-scale urban development of the city on the north bank of the river. The Central Business and Social District, located in the core of the New District with the Yangtze River as the boundary and Laoshan Mountain as the background, is the kick-off area of the New District. In addition to infrastructure construction, the New District government intends to accelerate the development of the Central Business and Social Area by launching a series of public cultural building projects, and the Civic Center is one of the first key projects. The Project is sited in the open urban space at the intersection of Central Avenue (now called Dingshan Street) and Binjiang Avenue. Rising at the gateway to the New District and backed by the super high-rise cluster of the Central Business and Social Area, the Project overlooks the main urban area of Nanjing across the river. As the starting point of the north-south urban spatial corridor of the district, the site boasts a unique urban and natural landscape. The total site area is about 5.5 hm2 and the originally planned GFA was about 53,000 m2 (later increased to about 75,600 m2 subject to functional adjustment).

The Abrahamic Family House is a collection of three religious spaces: a mosque, a church, and a synagogue—all of which will sit upon a fourth secular space consisting of a Forum and raised garden. The house will serve as a community for interfaith dialogue and exchange, nurturing the values of peaceful co-existence and acceptance among different beliefs, nationalities, and cultures. Within each of the houses of worship, visitors can observe religious services, listen to holy scripture, and experience sacred rituals.
