Mumokuteki Concept Bookstore / LUO studio

June 22, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

LUO studio recently conceived a distinctive bookstore in the underground space of a shopping mall in Beijing.
Due to different area requirements of various tenants that could occupy the space in the future, the space of the large commercial building was divided unevenly, and the walls and columns were separated and arranged disorderly. The mall hoped to maximize the potential of the underground space, where equipment rooms were set. The equipment space was dominated by intricately mounted and dense pipelines, which posed a great challenge to the design. For spatial renovation, bringing in a conventional suspended ceiling to conceal the pipelines would lead to a more cramped, oppressive space. Therefore, the design started from the idea of presenting the authenticity of the space without adding wrapping elements to original spatial structures.

Yitingting Cottage / genarchitects

June 17, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

Yitingting Cottage is located in Tonglu, Zhejiang. Started in 2019, this building functions as an individual drawing room and a dining room for a rural complex. Originally on the site was a two-story folk house made of rammed earth. According to the site conditions, the newly built cannot go beyond the original footprint and height. That means the new building can only be the size of a normal living room. Blocked on all sides, it has little access to scenery, with not too much design potential. Given such a small space, what else can we think of? Village style? Structural expression? Façade mannerism? Furniture selection? It took us some time to realize that it is the wall of the courtyard that is the real boundary of our feelings. We do not merely make the room facing the courtyard, but tried to bring the garden inside as part of the drawing-room.

Crossing the bustle of the ancient town “Pian Yan”. Marching the paths in the forest alone the Heishuitan river. This path is upstream to Jindaoxia reservoir and downstream to Pianyan town even to the main districts of Chongqing city. Turning one more corner, the first thing that comes to my eyes is an ancient stone arch bridge. Wander down the bridge and through the temple, you can see this abandoned building accompanied by several ancient Ficus virens.

GAGA TOAST Bakery / dongqi Architects

June 9, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

dongqi turned a building in Shenzhen into a new concept bakery and developed its visual identity. The team named the space GAGA TOAST and proposed a ‘More Than Toast’ narrative. GAGA TOAST is not only a bakery that offers delicious toast, but also a gathering space full of toast elements. Toast elements permeated the space, whose design was centered around a special shaped brick. At the same time, the creative team worked closely with the architects to custom-make the element into the fundamental element of our visual identity as it conveyed the brand’s belief in authentic ingredients.

June 7, 2021 Yu Xin Li 0

The 13-hectare Haoxiang Lake Park, designed by eLandscript, is located in Bao’an District, Shenzhen. It is connected to four urban rivers including Pailao River, Xinqiao River, Wanfeng River and Tantou River. As an important stormwater retention pond, it has played an important role in local flood control and pollution interception. However, due to the deteriorating water quality and the occupation of industrial plants around the lake, it has been gradually forgotten by the surrounding residents.
