The conditions of the terrain being a corner and its orientation were the guidelines to define the spacial and constructive strategy of the house. The local regulations establishes a remission of the corner to leave it construction free almost the same size as the one in the back side of the plot. As well they require a service hall. This reduced significantly the constructive area, forcing to concentrate the house in the center of the plot.
3V House is located in a gardened neighbourhood in São Paulo, which was built on an old floodplain area. This condition brought us to the solution of slightly elevating the property land and its garden relative to the street level, thereby protecting it from the flooding rains that this area is subject to.
Located east of Mexico City, Oriente 430 arises in response to the importance of exploring the re-densification of popular neighbourhoods such as Agrícola Oriental. The commission consisted of renovating an existing house as a recycling strategy that seeks to promote the generation of decent housing in this area.
Built in 1893 by a local Limeburner, Pitch aimed to breathe new life into this beachside Victorian while still respecting its historical value. The resulting design kept the classic façade, but added a contemporary rear extension with soaring floor to ceiling windows and glass doors.
Nestled in a valley next to the Disa River, this virgin plot of land is surrounded by various peaks of Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town, South Africa. The larger area is known as Hout Bay, with the Afrikaans word “hout” meaning wood, referencing the large number of Yellow Wood trees the original Dutch Settlers found in the area when first arriving in the Cape. The area has mostly kept its rural character throughout the development of the greater Cape Town area with some of the larger plots exceeding a hectare in size.
The house is located within the first ring of the conurbation, in the town of Banfield, Lomas de Zamora (one of the five districts with the highest population density in the Buenos Aires Conurbation). Nevertheless, the intervention takes place in a low- density residential area with a landscape that is commonly seen in the outskirts of the city.
Savings and dreams are deposited in the houses. In them, the fears and the illusions of the human beings are visible. The house is, at the same time, the great aspiration of a family and also the great investment of a life.
Alejandra is a sculptor who decided to unite her whole world in a small house. A house located in those areas that cities forget to digest. Built, like all its peers, at the stroke of desire and ingenuity, generating a set made from remnants, the remnants that were necessary at every moment.
Can an architectural contemporary volume be a good neighbor to rural surrounding?
Ruhehe Primary School is a public school that serves 1,120 students from pre-primary to grade six, with the help of 20 teachers and maintenance staff. Through partnership with M2Foundation and the District of Musanze, the inaugural cohort of African Design Centre (ADC) fellows led the reconstruction of Ruhehe as the cornerstone of their design-build curriculum. The redesign of Ruhehe offers the first proof of concept for design interventions piloted by MASS Design Group at Mubuga Primary School in 2015. Together, Mubuga and Ruhehe present new standards in school design throughout Rwanda’s Musanze District.
