Call for Entries: Drawing of the Year 2017

It is with great pleasure that Aarhus School of Architecture, schmidt hammer lassen architects, VOLA and the Danish Arts Foundation announce the fifth joint venture competition Drawing of the Year 2017. This year’s theme is Everyday Utopia.

Everyday Utopia
In 1516 Thomas More used the word Utopia for the first time to describe a perfect society, and the word has since been synonymous with something positive yet unrealistic. Through the architect’s ability to dream and draw innovative solutions to challenges that are general and significant to all of us, the competition wishes to address and inspire solutions to these everyday challenges.

Reimagine the New York State Canal System

The New York Power Authority and the New York State Canal Corporation launched a competition seeking ideas to shape the future of the New York State Canal System, a 524-mile network composed of the Erie Canal, the Oswego Canal, the Cayuga-Seneca Canal, and the Champlain Canal. Selected ideas will be awarded a total of $2.5 million toward their implementation.

Italian Fashion Hub: Call For Entries

YAC – Young Architects Competitions – and Centergross launch “Italian Fashion Hub”, an architectural competition to redevelop a multi-service area of the wider fashion district in Europe. A cash prize of € 20,000 will be awarded to the winners selected by an internationally-renowned jury made by, among the others, Patrik Schumacher (Zaha Hadid Architects), Ben Gilmartin (Diller Scofidio + Renfro), Marie Hesseldahl (3XN), Aurélien Coulanges (Ateliers Jean Nouvel).

Bamboo U: Build and Design Course, Bali

BambooU(niversity) was an idea originally conceived to help teach professionals about the potential of bamboo as a green building material. In its current form it is a design and bamboo build workshop in Bali hosted by The Kul Kul Farm at the Green School; facilitated in collaboration with the bamboo design firm, IBUKU. Bamboo U is a unique opportunity to design and build alongside some of the architects, designers and craftsmen who built the Green School. The group will investigate the available sites and hear from Elora Hardy, her team at IBUKU and John Hardy, co-founder of Green School.

Fairy Tales 2018: Architecture Storytelling Competition

Over the last four years, the Fairy Tales competition has captured the imagination of designers and architects around the world. Last year’s record breaking competition drew over 1,500 participants, making the competition once again the largest annual architecture competition in the world.
