Real-Time Ray-Tracing is Changing Architectural Visualization

July 23, 2020 Rene Submissions 0

Architectural visualization company Brick Visual has been loading its most complex scenes into Chaos Group’s real-time 3D ray-traced engine, Project Lavina, since the private beta first launched. With the first public beta now available, Attila Cselovszki, CDO at Brick Visual, shares how adding Project Lavina to the architectural visualization (arch-viz) pipeline has revolutionized the way they work.

Reducing render times is the holy grail of the visualization industry. Waiting for machines to render is an issue that can disrupt the creative process — the typical trade-off between speed and quality has become expected. When Project Lavina was announced, however, it looked as though it could free 3D artists to look around their worlds without restrictions. Brick Visual joined the private beta program without any hesitation, to test the new engine’s capabilities.

Natural Light Enhances Progressive Learning at Hessenwald School

July 15, 2020 Rene Submissions 0

The entire local community, from professionals to pupils and teachers, is excited about the new Hessenwald School complex. The school accommodates 700 students from surrounding towns and villages. Despite its size, Stuttgart-based architectural firm wulf architekten successfully integrated the building with its surroundings by means of a cluster-like pavilion design. At the same time, the design translates the open pedagogical concept into a clear and contemporary architectural language. In the centre is a well-lit and well-ventilated atrium that ties the whole complex together.

The three-storey atrium links the assembly hall, break room, theatre and music room. Six VELUX Modular ‘Longlights’ provide optimal daylight conditions. The diffused, cool brightness that enters the building through the Longlights contrasts with the play of light from perforated sunscreens on the façade, creating a balanced atmosphere. This open architectural design supports an open approach to learning, with a variety of shared spaces that pupils can use independently.

Fully Automated Parking Solutions: Space-saving systems with superior user experience

July 14, 2020 Rene Submissions 0

As ride-sharing services grow and personal ownership of automobiles declines, office building owners and developers are re-thinking the value of parking structures, and their capacity and ability to convert. As part of the total transformation of One Post Office Square (OPOS), located in the heart of Boston’s financial district and designed by Gensler, a new automated parking garage will optimize the use of valuable leasable space, enhance the user experience and create long term flexibility.

Digital Fabrication in Architecture & Design Webinar with Fabio Gramazio, Jorge Lopes, and Barbara Iseli

July 9, 2020 Rene Submissions 0

Digital fabrication is a manufacturing process that uses a machine controlled by computers. This method has sparked the interest of architects and product designers, as it opens the door to new possibilities in terms of solving complex processes and new approaches for mass construction.

These new technologies have radically changed the way of designing, visualizing and constructing buildings and architectural elements. The digital movement has passed through various stages, from 3D printing in laboratories to on-site robotic manufacturing. The dissemination of the technology has allowed tackling complex design challenges on a global scale.

What is the impact of digital fabrication on the

Learning by Doing: Creating Meaningful Spaces

July 3, 2020 Rene Submissions 0

The relationship between space and well-being has always been a key consideration at IE University’s School of Architecture & Design. As this concept becomes increasingly widespread, the boundaries of what’s possible are being pushed. By providing students with a global vision of architecture and design, they are able to create multipurpose spaces that boost well-being and remain flexible as needs evolve.

In the Bachelor in Architectural Studies, students engage in project-based learning to develop a broad and creative skill set, while also mastering the essentials of what it means to be an architect. The recent projects designed by four current students serve as perfect examples of the way IE University fosters an entrepreneurial spirit and prepares them for a successful future.
