Shenandoah House by SCHAUM/SHIEH unfolds over a lush slope of the Allegheny Mountains in western Virginia, part of the Appalachian Range. The 2,750-square-foot home and writer’s retreat was built for a creative couple with deep ties to the area’s landscape. The open, expansive views and rolling surroundings, paired with the challenges presented by a steep site, inform the overall design.
The design is a creative response to the constraints and opportunities presented by the site, and Dulwich Estate requirements, resulting in an original take on the typical domestic extension project. The clever roof design articulates privacy, light and views to maximize enjoyment of the space and garden for the large family of seven.
Text by Valerio Olgiati. The house is located in Alentejo, Portugal. It is 10 km away from the ocean. The area is known for its wide-open spaces and its rural landscape. The house is set at the end of a dirt road, in between hills and surrounded by cork oaks.

Due to its exceptional location in the tri-border region of France, Switzerland and Germany, the city of Neuenburg am Rhein has always been of special importance. As part of the State Garden Exhibition 2022, the town had the opportunity to reorganize urban areas. The site known as “Am Kronenrain”, located between the city center and the redesigned green space “Stadtpark am Wuhrloch”, played a significant role in this endeavor. The preliminary urban situation proved to be dissatisfactory with hardly any usable space and a height difference of around nine meters.
In 2018, Mexico City’s government launched the PILARES initiative (an acronym for Points of Innovation, Freedom, Art, Education, and Knowledge) that would result in one hundred community centers distributed across the most underserved neighborhoods in the city. StudioAC introduces Everden, its newly built construction of a single-family residence. The brief was to create a home that felt unique and personal to the homeowners, unapologetically contemporary, while still having cues to the traditional ideas of “house”. What followed was a three-story form, reading as stacked boxes, carrying the motif of “house” throughout the interior.
2k architecte presents Oiseau Lyre, a school with Nordic inspiration in Noisy-le-Grand, France. Anchored on a plot with 8 meters of elevation, the school faces North towards the Marne and explores a new pedagogical model of Finnish inspiration, offering a diversity of shared spaces. The compact building of 50mx100m is set on 4 levels, maintaining a low height profile in relation to neighboring pavilions. Like a Palladian villa, functions are embedded in the core of the building, in an area filled with natural light and the social vibrancy of the school.
The new Phoenix bridge represents the evolution of the Striatus, the first-of-its-kind 3D-printed concrete bridge presented during the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale.
