This project entailed the comprehensive renovation and reconfiguration of both the inside and exterior of a residence constructed in the 2000s, tailored to accommodate the preferences, comfort, and character of a family that values traditional painting and artisanal lacquerware. The house’s antiquity and several modifications, together with changes in ownership, rendered the creation of a new functional space within the existing structure a formidable challenge, despite its modest size. The refurbished residence necessitated six bedrooms, an expansive kitchen, and a primary living space for familial engagement and leisure.

Fragrance of Earth is a 1,800 sq. ft. bungalow gently elevated on a natural mound within a 12-acre mango orchard, surrounded by an abundance of fruit-bearing trees. Conceived as an extension of the landscape rather than an imposition upon it, the home emerges with quiet restraint, allowing architecture and nature to exist in continuity. Its name reflects the project’s guiding ethos — a tactile relationship with the land, expressed through natural textures, locally sourced materials, and a design language shaped by earth, climate, and context.

Part of the renowned Krishnendu Ayurveda Hospital, the ~21,000 sq. ft. Nirava Ayurveda Holistic Centre is envisioned as an oasis of healing, rooted in tradition and elevated through thoughtful innovation. Conceived as an immersive wellness retreat, the master plan unfolds in two distinct yet interconnected volumes: a villa block comprising twelve serene guest rooms and a gracefully curved spa block housing therapy suites. Each structure is carefully positioned to preserve and embrace the mature trees that define the site’s lush, tropical character, allowing architecture and landscape to exist in quiet harmony.
