Path Envelope in Maebashi / HAGISO

March 16, 2026 Miwa Negoro 0

An envelope embracing the city and a family – This residence explores the theme of reconciling family time with architectural time. Situated in a residential neighborhood near Maebashi Station, it envelops the life of a family of seven—a couple and their five children. Featuring curved exterior walls that encircle a central courtyard to shield against the dry winds characteristic of northern Kanto, the design places an ample, gymnasium-like space called the “Arena” within this enclosure. This configuration generously accommodates the family’s changing needs while embracing the light and breezes of each season. The house is conceived not merely as a “machine for living,” but as an envelope that softly cradles the time spent by the family and the community. (Mitsuyoshi Miyazaki / HAGISO)

Located in Dubai’s Alserkal Avenue, Gooder reimagines the traditional skatepark as a multifunctional cultural hub where skateboarding, retail, food, and workspaces coexist under one roof. The client sought a space that could bring skaters and non-skaters together, fostering community interaction while contributing to the city’s creative culture, with the challenge of transforming a specialized sports facility into a flexible social environment.

Toward activities centered on “things” – This is a new research and development facility of automaker SUBARU’s main plant. SUBARU is a pioneer of technologies and systems known to everyone today, and its unique manufacturing approach and obsessive attention to detail have cultivated a loyal fan base. However, recent increases in workloads have led to organizational and operational “silos,” creating challenges with respect to sharing tacit knowledge and fostering a more collaborative mindset. Additionally, designers had limited opportunities to interact with actual “things” or users, making it difficult to get external information and inspiration.

The lounge at Rich Oriental Hospital is a space where patients reside. Many patients in hospital rooms share a common space with others, limiting their time and movement. We aimed to convey a sense of visual pleasure and liberation through spatial transitions that relieve the frustration patients may feel in their hospital rooms.

Nafas-e-No (New Breath) is a project located in the heart of Babol — a transformation of an old traditional house into a contemporary psychotherapy clinic. The design approach merges local architectural identity with a modern functional program. The preserved brick façade, alongside a minimal interior palette of white surfaces and soft green details, creates a calm, neutral, and bright atmosphere—supporting focus, dialogue, and psychological healing.

UNSW Health Translation Hub / Architectus

March 14, 2026 Miwa Negoro 0

The UNSW Health Translation Hub (HTH) is conceived as a landmark for innovation, collaboration, and community, an architectural and landscape response that bridges the UNSW Kensington Campus with the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct (RHIP). The design unites education, research, and healthcare within a connected ecosystem that fosters knowledge exchange and translational health outcomes, which shortens the feedback loop between health research and clinical practice. Subsequently, the discoveries from the laboratory (“bench”) to patient care (“bedside”) and vice versa are more efficient, ultimately, leading to improved health outcomes for the community.

Soil Stories Pavilion / Magicline Studio

Set within a 14-acre family estate on the outskirts of Kozhikode, Soil Stories occupies a 60-cent site within a campus that was already ecologically rich long before architecture entered the frame. The larger landscape contains three kaavus (sacred groves), a wetland system, and dense native tree cover, together generating a distinct microclimate. This living terrain supports diverse native inhabitants, with the potential for many more to establish the site as an active ecological system rather than a neutral backdrop.

Ananda House / Thought Parallels

March 13, 2026 Miwa Negoro 0

Madhu and Mandy, a couple based in Dallas, USA, approached thought parallels to design a residence adjacent to their ancestral home in India. They sought a contemporary architectural interpretation of the region’s vernacular style. Both of them, being aesthetically astute and well-traveled, ideated a refined vision of what a home should embody. They broke a stereotype of usually cliched project requirements.
