Bluebird Townhouses / Altereco Design

Most duplex developments attempt to maximize yield, pushing site constraints to the limits and maximizing the limitations of the planning scheme. In this case we we were lucky enough to respect the predominantly single story streetscape and create intimate spaces that are filled with natural light. Orientation was not ideal. Used a skillion roof form and glazing to allow natural light in.

Highroad / Foolscap Studio

Foolscap Studio was tasked with creating a space that Canberra’s inner-north would value as a genuinely unique hospitality experience – a place to call their own, without journeying into town. The team behind ONA Coffee and The Cupping Room developed a brief that strongly resonated with their own offerings’ principles: confident and specialist delivery of quality products, happy experimentation delivered with flair, remaining approachable and humble. The space warmly and easily transitions from day into night, encouraging guests to linger and treat Highroad as a home away from home.

Downside Up House / WALA

January 19, 2019 Martita Vial 0

Nestled in a diverse residential neighbourhood, the original building was a dilapidated double-fronted Victorian house book-ended by a double-storey terrace house on its south side. The house is located on a corner allotment, pinched in by the main street and a laneway which gives it its triangular shape that tapers towards the rear. As a heritage listed building, it was imperative to rescue the front of house which was in a severe state of disrepair.

John F. Kennedy International Airport – Terminal 4 / SOM

January 18, 2019 Martita Vial 0

In 1957, SOM designed the former International Arrivals Building for New York’s Idlewild Airport (not ehe John F. Kennedy International Airport). By the mid 1990s, the facility had become cramped and outdated. SOM led a revitalization effort to create a spacious new building that could meet the needs of modern air travel.
