The theme of the Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture (UABB) Yantian Sub-venue is “ City of Streams”. The exhibition is located in Shatoujiao Bonded Zone. Indoor exhibits are located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor in Building No.8 while outdoor exhibits occupy the space between the West Gate and Building No.8 as well as the surrounding pedestrian areas.
This project is located in the south of the Old City of Nanjing, Xi Nanli historical and cultural block, It next to the former residence of Gan Xi, commonly known as “ninety-nine and a half rooms”, which is regarded as the largest and best-preserved dwelling in China. The entrance is facing to the famous Zhongshan South Road. The combination of modern and classical forms the interest of this project “half the world, half the soul”.
The project is located in the central section next to Suzhou Canal, where there is a grand canal view in the distance and urban trunk road in close proximity. We explore the inherent logic of local cultural form and language and apply them to the design to stimulate the vitality of surrounding open space and make it the city parlor for residents.
Significance
Culture is an essential characteristic of a village. Cultural deposits are always neglected and weakened as economy develops and lifestyle changes. However, traditional cultural textures and roots are not only manifested in tangible heritages like topography and terrain, infrastructure and buildings but also in intangible heritages like customs and handicrafts.
In 2018, Crossboundaries designed a 36-classroom school, to be located in the newly established Pingshan district in the Chinese metropolis Shenzhen. The venture was not only an attempt to maximize the potential of prefab architecture but also an opportunity to realize and to contribute to a project of significant social impact.
The settlement, also known as “house place” in the south part of China, has different sizes, which is the basic unit of living and social farm life. In the Chinese social management system, the “village” this concept is always recognized as an administrative village, which includes one or a few settlements. In nowadays countryside building and development fever, a whole administrative village or the large rural area in the administrative village is the main issue which public are interested in.
Home is not merely a house or container of trivial things in daily life, but more a place that accommodates emotions and love. It’s like an intimate medium, which witnesses the interweaving of daily life and growth, records stories occur in the space, and conveys the occupant’s personality and attitude.
Public realm of Darling Square which was designed by ASPECT Studios is unveiled in Sydney. The mixed-use precinct, being developed by Lendlease, brings together residential, commercial, retail uses and community facilities, anchored around a new public square.
Background
The General’s Village was constructed in 1958. There are 15 original buildings remaining. The village was constructed after the Second World War to accommodate military families arriving with the KMT from mainland China. It was designated a landmark district of Hsinchu City in 2015. Planning and restoration commenced from 2016 through 2019. The original village reflected the lives of military families as a unique sub-culture of Taiwanese history. The restoration plan envisions an open book information park, reflecting the diversity of ethnic groups, information and cultures. The flow of information and knowledge will be divided into four groups: Tradition, Local culture, nature, and future. It will be shared with four universities.
Fangting bookstore, located in OCT Huanleli commercial street, Jinniu District, Chengdu, is a renovation and redesign project of the original OCT Art Center. In the renovation of the exterior facade, we are allowed to renovate the exterior facade without modifying the glass exterior facade, while the interior part needs to be redesigned to meet the use of the new bookstore format.
