The project was built in Da Lat city. We as architects have had special experiences with Dalat and Chiang Mai. These are two tourist cities with certain similarities about climate, geographic location as well as people. On an area of 400m2 in the middle of the foggy land that is becoming increasingly bustling and vibrant, the designers have divided it into two halves of inside and outside space, with the idea of creating a contrast between these two spaces.
To cut into the earth, to lower oneself and melt into the horizon
Modern Ryokan kishi-ke operated by Kishi-ke Co., Ltd is a coastal small ryokan in Kamakura, the former capital of Japan, in the suburbs of Tokyo. Kishi-ke takes just one group up to 4 people at once which makes it one of the smallest ryokan-style lodgings in the World. More than an accommodation – the ocean-view private retreat is based on the concept of ‘stay & experience‘ and the Zen’s chisoku which means ‘to know the feeling of being fulfilled with the now‘. kishi-ke provides luxury settings, kaiseki cuisine, authentic masters, crafted masterpieces, local people and places to allow guests to encounter Japan in a new way and help them achieving the chisoku, the harmony in their life.
The GIZI _Art Base is a single building tasked to house four different programs – a commercial space, a gallery, an office and a multi-family housing unit, each of which required a unique spatial definition appropriate to its needs and functions. While the ground floor commercial space demanded easy visual recognition and street access, the gallery, which on the other hand called for a more intimate and private setting for viewing and selling artwork, necessitated a more peripheral placement. The office space needed a calm atmosphere, and the individual residential units were asked to be both separately divided yet connected through a central courtyard. In order to accommodate the disparate and conflicting nature of these programs, each of the four was stacked vertically and unified into a singular mass.
House In A Garden is situated at the northern tip of mainland Mauritius, in one of the most densely populated neighborhoods of the island nation. At the center of Goodlands are large swathes of reserved forest lands, the fringes of which are occupied by sprawling family residences. The house is home to a couple – who are avid art collectors – and their two young children. The house sits parallel to the south edge of the site, opening it up to the winter sun and a glimpse of the sea in the distance. With all living spaces arranged along a central spine, the built mass of the house is characterized by timber-shuttered concrete walls folding inwards to create multiple niches and courts in the built envelope.

The owners’ big family have recently moved from Northern to Southern Vietnam. They host family and friends get-togethers at their house every month with hundreds of people coming as a family tradition. His house became too small for such events. Being built on a 260 sqm lot, this “get-together” house was designed in a unique way to open up the ground floor, living space and worship area to nature.
This luxurious residence, which has just been completed recently, is absolute example of a design that satisfies the owners’ preference more than just to satisfy architect’s taste. The owners who are successful in their business are also highly experienced in life and have a different architectural conception. While the husband loves the unique and creative style, the wife favors something that is practical and convenient. Combined, they inspired Architect Tran Le Quoc Binh for an ingenious design.
This long site has a public footpath running along its side boundary as well as a high rise high density public housing development at the rear which was under construction. Thus privacy was a major concern for its occupants. The house is designed around 2 courtyards.
Density has always been a strong characteristic in the urban design of Hanoi. Historically horizontal concentration has been typical and more recently vertical construction has intensified the capital. Going against the trend of compressing building density, the Organic Café plays with architectural contrasts to propose a resilient microcosm within the urban context.
