Karaoke House / Man Office

September 1, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

Initially, while designing this house, we aimed to resolve a fundamental question: how can we revise the architectural approaches of past decades (specifically, the architecture of 1970s Iranian houses in this project). While avoiding nostalgic value judgments that result in fleeting emotions, we wanted to find a solution to revive and utilize elements that have become obsolete due to the expansion of mass production or economic and market forces, such as elements that have significantly contributed to durability, proper functionality, and resistance to erosion. A specific example in this project is the appropriate separation of functional spaces, replacing synthetic and resin-based materials with forgotten materials like washed cement, which requires skilled craftsmen’s artistry, and using materials with small tiles that perform better against contraction and expansion.

Studio 9016’s architectural design proposal for a Cemevi and Culture Centre was selected as the Winner of Istanbul Beylikduzu Municipality’s competition in 2015. As completed in 2020, it is the first Cemevi competition-winner project that was built in Turkey, chosen from 82 projects. Cemevi is the name of the gathering place for the Alevi-Bektashi population, which is a religious minority group; and Beylikduzu Cemevi and Culture Centre creates a distinctive presence for Alevis in Istanbul.

SOLASUNA Hotel / axonometric

August 30, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

This plan is for a hotel in a seaside park that is expected to serve as an integrated part of the park. A monumental staircase as an extension of the park covers the hotel, seamlessly connecting the park, sea, and architecture. Will the building covered with a park become something between an architecture and a park, yet neither of them?

This project is an independent salon for a stylist couple. As they used to belong to two separate salons, they have different client lists, so we combined cozy personal spaces with more expansive areas so that each can welcome their clients in comfort.

Up House / MAS Architecture

Regional architecture – The construction takes place in Soc Son, a suburban district of Hanoi, where the agricultural land has been tremendously reduced in accordance with local economic growth. Urban area and industrialized zone projects have decreased agricultural soil size and led farmers to gradually lose their farming land. This fact is clearly reflected during harvest seasons when farmers dry their produce right on highways or town roads due to the lack of drying grounds. This seriously endangers traffic flow and drivers’ safety. Lots of accidents have occurred due to farmer’s land transgression.

This residence is designed for a couple and their child. The site is situated in a residential area carved into the mid-slope of a mountain. The eastern side of the site faces a cliff, offering distant views of the mountains and a panoramic vista of the town below. It is also located in a region with a close-knit community. Given the client’s desire to leverage the site’s natural surroundings, the design was focused on creating a building that allows for enjoying the views while fostering positive relationships with the neighbors.
