Next to the Tree House / Rosha Office

The villa project next to the tree was proposed on a limited area of 300 square meters. Due to budget constraints, the entire building area was limited to 100 square meters and designed on two levels. This included a parking area and bedrooms on the upper level, and a living room, kitchen, and a small pool on the lower level. In addition to these considerations, the site had multiple restrictions, necessitating an examination of each and finding a suitable and coordinated solution to address them.

Solarium House / YKAA

From the get-go, our simplicity-loving clients, a couple with their three dogs, requested a compact house with a sunroom where everyone could come together. However, the land presented a certain challenge – it is located in a chaotic urban zone with high-rise buildings, landscape company facilities and parking lots with limited natural light. As a result, we started looking into different ways to handle natural light as well as to create an open space in this particular context. In addition, during this process, we realized that it would be important to design a dwelling place with a sense of psychological distance from its surroundings.

On the west coast of Middle Africa, Senegal is by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Senegal River borders the country to the east and north. The capital city of Senegal, Dakar is located at the westernmost tip of the country on the Cap-Vert peninsula. The congress center first opened in November 2014, for the 15th Francophone Assembly where 75 world presidents met. Typical geography and natural values have been the inspiration for the project. Extraordinary, characteristic Baobab trees of Senegal are distinctive with their enormous girth. Their massive trunks can grow to circumferences of 25 meters or more. Their second distinctive feature is great longevity. Baobabs have lived well over a thousand years, so they have been important landmarks in Senegal’s dry savanna plain; in oral histories, baobabs are cited as loci of battles, or as marking borders between states. Many of these historic trees have been classified as historic monuments by the Ministry of Culture.

The Tham Luong school is located on a rocky plateau in Du Gia commune, Yen Minh district, Ha Giang province – the home of the Hmong ethnic minority who migrated to the land of the Tay people. Previously, due to natural disasters and landslides, the entire Hmong village lost their homes and land, forcing them to move to a new location. Since then, they have developed a mentality of  “living on borrowed land”, where everything in their village, from houses to schools, is temporary.

An IWAN is a sitting place that is higher than its surroundings, which is usually built in the outer part of a building. An IWAN usually consists of a single arch, enclosed on three sides, and open to the nave. The most famous example of an IWAN in Iran’s past architecture is TAQ KASRA. This project is an exercise and experience that serves as a connection to a period of Iran’s glorious history. It’s an attempt to connect one of the most prominent architectural archetypes of the past, the IWAN, to a dilapidated villa, which itself belongs to the period of the introduction of modernism before the Islamic revolution; 50 years have passed since the construction of this villa.
