Rb House / Song A studio

October 1, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

The inspiration behind RBhouse came from a desire to create an open, fluid living space while addressing the constraints of a small urban plot. The primary concept revolves around the staggered floor design, where varying floor heights create a seamless visual connection across levels. This promotes a feeling of openness, optimizing natural light and ventilation. Minimalism was a key guiding principle, emphasizing simplicity, functionality, and a cohesive spatial flow.

Hotel Labaris Khaoyai / Shma Company Limited

Hotel Labaris is divided into 4 zones. Each zone narrates a chapter of a fairytale through a unique conceptual feature of the project, a maze. A maze in each zone has a different design that illustrates a concept of each fairytale chapter and also weaves all chapters together into a whole storyline. The winding mazes also elongate visitors’ experiences in spaces that are actually limited.  An axis goes from the project entrance and cuts through the 4 zones forward to the far back of the project, separating the whole area into 2 symmetrical sides.

Step by Step: Exploring 12 Projects Featuring Staircase or Terraced Roof Designs

September 30, 2024 Hana Abdel 0

Pitched roofs and terraced lots or hillsides are some of the oldest, yet still highly functional, solutions for rainwater dispersal, redirection, and erosion management. While most constructions today still opt for traditional pitched or flat roofs, advancements in construction materials and techniques are leading to greater design exploration and layout variations. This has resulted in a rise in green roofs, passive insulation solutions, and more innovative uses of rooftops. One particular case has been the recurrence of the staircase or terraced roofs that often bring about a smooth continuity with the site and provide additional functional spaces to the project.

Newlywed life is a process of accepting a person who has walked a different life path into your own internal world. The encounter with different values is both refreshing and fleetingly lonely, much like moments of poignant sadness amidst a wonderful adventure. Architecture sometimes captures this fleeting poignancy of a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

In the spring of 1996, a group of students from the Department of Architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology travelled to Senegal to address a challenge through architectural means. Among them were Saija Hollmén, Jenni Reuter, and Helena Sandman, students at the time. They were introduced to the work of a local women’s group, who suggested the idea of designing a centre for the women’s associations in their neighbourhood. Initially, this was undertaken as a learning exercise.
