The design for Youth Center Mena in Rotselaar stems from an explicit ambition to create a place of encounter. From the earliest competition phase, the architects organized participatory sessions with the youth center’s board, allowing the needs and wishes of its users to inform the project from the outset. A central question guided the design: how can young people truly feel at home in their own youth center?

The Pechbonnieu school complex was originally intended to be the rehabilitation and extension of an existing schooling facility. However, an in-depth analysis of the social cost of carbon, conducted during the competition phase, led the project team to propose an entirely new construction while remaining within budget. The existing school building lacked the capacity for sustainable transformation; its demolition would free up land and allow for a reimagined urban future. The creation of the school on the site enables broader development scenarios for the town, while the unification of primary and nursery levels offers the opportunity for children to grow and learn together from an early age.

In Kaiserswerth, where courtyards have shaped the character of the town for centuries, the Kreuzberghof does not present itself as a solitary object but as a continuation of a typology. Between street and garden, an ensemble unfolds: the front house from the 1920s opposite the new timber courtyard house – in between a shared courtyard planted with perennials and covered in ivy, forming its own microclimate in summer, almost a small biotope.

From the first idea by the chairman, Yoo Jaesung, in 2013, it is a private park ( from 2020 open to the public) where selected architects, artists, and landscapers are invited to dialogue with the natural landscape. The site covers an area totaling 330,000 m2 and takes about three hours to look around in its entirety. The park includes architecture by Alvaro Siza, Seung h-sang ( IROJE), Wook Choi, Matsunobu Kawagishi, and Jung Young-sun ( landscape architect)

The Arts Campus ‘Kunst-As’ anchors a growing cluster of cultural institutions in the centre of Asse. Its L-shape frames the protected chapel and completes the city block. On the outer corner, a small setback creates a forecourt that marks the public entrance and connects the street with the revived cloister garden.

Postiljooni Daycare Center is located in the new Postipuisto residential district, developed on the site of a former logistics terminal and railway depot area. The compact daycare building occupies a prominent location at the intersection of Kollikatu and Lavakatu, where the urban block structure meets the rugged rocky terrain. The design approach has been to align the building with the surrounding streets while preserving the area’s highest natural feature—Kollikallio—as an integral part of the children’s playground.
