Čoarvemátta Cultural and Educational Hub / Snøhetta

August 26, 2024 Hadir Al Koshta 0

Snøhetta, together with 70°N architecture and artist Joar Nango, delivered the winning proposal in the architectural competition for a new Sami theatre and school building in 2021. Now, the prominent building has been inaugurated. The name Čoarvemátta comes from the Sámi words for horn and root, after the innermost and strongest part of the reindeer antlers. This symbolizes different qualities and strengths and represents elements that unite, as Čoarvemátta will be a unifying force for the institutions that share the building: the Sami National Theatre Beaivváš and the Sami High School and Reindeer Herding School.

Maison des Services Latécoère / Brenac & Gonzalez & Associés

The key idea of the project and its main variations – The Maison des Services Latécoère is simple, says Xavier Gonzalez: “It is the pavilion in the park, which brings people together, where they want to go. It’s like a party pavilion. It’s a place to connect.” The tea pavilion typology served as inspiration for this wood-frame design. A hymn to the plasticity of larch and spruce, this low-carbon project is frugal and low-tech. A simple application of RT2012, it has been designed like a Japanese pavilion in a garden, echoing the surrounding park. With this in mind, the choice of wood as the construction material meant that the inherent constraints of wood were taken into account from the outset, without technological subterfuge. Every structural, technical and functional element has its place, and everything is made of wood: beams, posts, floors, joists, terraces, roofing, facade, joinery and sunshades.

Old Stable Restoration for Giopato & Coombes / Studio Plazzogna

August 23, 2024 Hadir Al Koshta 0

The intervention consists of two parts: the restoration of the old stable and its expansion. The new body was designed in continuity with the existing volume and does not follow the shape, maintaining the same dimensions in height, depth, and length. Between the two buildings, placed parallel to each other, there is a necessary offset to respect the minimum distance from the border. The two bodies are connected by a lower volume with a flat roof that forms a single element with the window that closes the old portico: it acts as a trait d’union between the old building and the new one.
