RAMA Estudio Wins Competition for Recycling Public Building into Social Housing in Ecuador

RAMA Estudio has won a competition organized by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (Miduvi) to transform public buildings into social housing. “Casa Cevallos” seeks to give a new face to the Miduvi Tungurahua building, located in front of the Cevallos Park in Ambato, Ecuador, incorporating 16 apartments for 45 inhabitants through 7 adaptable typologies.

Exploring Vulnerable Habitats in the XXII Chile Architecture Biennial

After the interruption of the 2019 edition due to the Social crisis in Chile, the Chilean Architecture Biennial returned to Santiago in January 2023 under the theme of ‘Vulnerable Habitats’, addressing issues such as “the emergence of the housing deficit in a context in which slums, informality, and illegal land takeovers have increased in recent years” and “the vulnerability and deterioration of public spaces; the urgent protection of tangible heritage; and environmental vulnerability in a context of a climate crisis.”

Overcoming Barriers: Social Justice in Latin American Architecture

Francisco Cadau: “The Construction Itself Creates Ideas”

Francisco Cadau received the highest award at the recent Buenos Aires 2022 International Architecture Biennial. A recognition of his genuine trajectory that, from technique and materiality, consistently manages to position his favorite location on the map: The city of Campana on the edge of the Parana River in Argentina. His works in this place, such as House of Sieves or Damero Building, are references when it comes to thinking about project models where “construction and technology constitute the ideas themselves”.

An initiative by Simon, with the support of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, the prize seeks to recognize excellence in architecture from the perspective of the inhabitant. In fact, “it distinguishes those works which strengthen the ability of adaptability of spaces to reach comfort and well-being to its residents”.
