The planet is dying, and we are the reason why. If nature’s decline continues at its current pace, we stand to face increasing natural disasters, loss of biodiversity, and threats to public health. Waste is the largest contributing factor to this problem. And the built environment is one of the top producers of waste in the world—period. But innovation can save the planet.

Even before the pandemic forced us to do so, c/o now started to shift Lucius Burckhardt’s strollology into the digital space. The so-called Googlewalks undertaken for this contribution respond to the question posed by the Tbilisi Architecture Biennale 2020 – What do we have in common? – and the upcoming theme of the Future Architecture platform – Landscapes of Care. The resulting mission statement for c/o now’s work is explained and developed upon by their guest, researcher Lela Rekhviashvili.

For the first Future Architecture Room, Lisbon Architecture Triennale will feature its home, the Palácio Sinel de Cordes, where the groundwork for the festival takes places, where shows and events are hosted, and where friends are welcomed.

The World Architecture Festival just announced the launch of WAFVirtual from 30 November – 4 December 2020, where the worldwide architectural community can engage in a week of live content, special prizes, talks, panel discussions and networking opportunities with peers and our WAF partners. Registration will be free for architects and design professionals.

The ICONIC AWARDS 2020: Innovative Architecture, organized by the German Design Council, honor the best architecture and design solutions internationally. This year’s winners have now been announced and can set themselves clearly apart from their competitors thanks to their title. The special awards, were presented to Kengo Kuma and Associates (“Architects of the Year”) and Alberto Caiola Studio (“Interior Designers of the Year”). The “Architects’ Client of the Year” honor went to Adidas AG.

In partnership with Make Architects and Sir John Soane’s Museum, the World Architecture Festival (WAF) has announced the call for entries for the fourth edition of The Architecture Drawing Prize. Launched in 2017, the prize is conceived to celebrate and showcase the art and skill of architectural drawing.

The CANactions youth competition was launched in 2009 by the Dessau Institute of Architecture (DIA / Germany) and CANactions School. The competition has become a professional “path to Europe” for Ukrainian students and young professionals. Since that time more than 1000 projects have been received, among which 118 finalist projects have been selected by members of the international jury. The Youth Competition is a two-stage open one that has no restrictions in the number of participants and is aimed at young Ukrainian architects under the age of 35. This year winner was Mariia Semibratova with an urban proposal for creative co-working and co-living in Podil area, Kyiv.

When older houses are preserved, it is often because of their recyclability. They have high ceilings, daylight, large rooms, and wide doors. But there is one more important reason why we don’t demolish them. We love them, because their architecture is good and because they are made of beautiful materials. Preserve your house, or make a new one with a high long term value, and you make your house more environmentally friendly.
