Dexter Studios is a VFX company. The term ‘VFX’ (Visual FX) refers to visual special effects. It creates images that cannot exist and develops techniques used to shoot scenes impossible to shoot or difficult to use actual life-size objects. Since the company exclusively deals with image related projects, people at the company work in a darker environment than regular office environment. This office is always a nighttime even during the daytime outside. It is a space where day & night coexist like Rene Magritte’s The Empire of Light.

When visiting the site assigned to the project we find two different pre-existences: one artificial and small, in the form of an existing construction. The other, natural and extensive, in the form of an existing landscape. We are interested in reinforcing the second and attenuating the first.

Within a small condominium with 24 lots, in S.J.Rio Preto, the architect Solange Cálio chose a lot of 1,100 m2, to make her home, for family and friends.

With an impressive architectural program, this house aims to split the volumes, sheltering the functions of such house to reduce their impact and to organize them around a protected terrace, opening to the south on the swimming pool and on a pine forest.
