AP House Urbino / GGA gardini gibertini architects

August 29, 2020 Cristobal Rojas 0

‘AP House’ bears witness to the rebirth of an ancient rural hamlet situated on the top of one of the highest hills in Urbino, highly esteemed for its landscape and environment. The new system of buildings stands on ancient remains dating back to Medieval Communes. Linked to each other on the hypogeum level, the structures rest on a red concrete platform (38 X 20 mt) dominating the surrounding landscape. The core of the houses, which forms a single housing unit, restablishes a central role to this site in the landscape, restoring a direct and empathic dialogue between new buildings and historical stratification. The structures, in their stone shell, free from any superfetations such as gutters or drainpipes andin their measured proportions, are offered to the landscape as pure, discreet and silent artifacts recovering their identity and affinity with the rural cultural matrix of the place.

22m2 Apartment in Taiwan / A Little Design

August 2, 2020 Cristobal Rojas 0

This is a renovation project of an old flat which measures 22 sqm and 3.3m in height. Due to the high housing prices in Taipei City, the living space that young people can afford has become smaller and smaller in the last decade. Faced with such a living unit which is not spacious but still has a chance to fulfill all basic living functions, the needs of clients must be analyzed more precisely and arranged suitably. The client agrees with the idea that space is as important as function when it comes to a place where people will live for a long time rather than a room for a short-term stay. ( Though the footprint of the flat might be smaller than many hotel rooms. ) We both agree that space should be left free with the main furniture arranged discreetly to ensure the long-term living experience is comfortable.

For this Factory and Office Annex in São Paulo Brazil, a ‘high-low’ fusion was employed, where high-tech architectural design strategies imported from abroad were combined with local low-tech construction methodologies to create a ‘tropicalized’ digital aesthetic. Parametric design, digital environmental simulation, and digital fabrication were employed to design and prepare the instructional guides for a low-tech labor force using simple local materials to construct a parametrically rotating concrete-block façade screen, as well as custom-made digitally fabricated furniture and internal wall panels.

After School Children’s Club / CCA Centro de Colaboración Arquitectónica

After-school time is critical for children’s comprehensive development. In marginalized areas, many children are left without adult supervision when classes finish, a situation that poses a risk to their health, safety and general wellbeing. In these areas, the lack of safe spaces for recreation means that violence, drug and alcohol use, and insecurity hinder healthy development and lead to the weakening of the social fabric. This situation perpetuates negative cycles that generate inequality, among many other serious consequences for the community.
