The Colinas del Sol Park was commissioned by CIDS and INFONAVIT — the main Mexican Housing Institutions reshaping Mexico’s mortgage market and promoting sustainable housing development — Parque Colinas del Sol is part of a wider program rethinking public space to revert the poor conditions of social housing over the last 30 years and heal the scars of abandoned properties and social segregation that affect the urban outskirts of the country.

It is a project that redefines the idea of house and structure different spaces around a large patio. This solution was made to maintain the existing trees of the land and to each space of the house receive morning and afternoon light. This produced a kind of exploited house, where the dwelling is composed of blocks that lean towards the views and orientation, and also to respect the original vegetation.

Pamplona Apartment / Zoom Urbanismo Arquitetura e Design

In order to redistribute the spaces in this 60’s apartment, the renovation brought down much of the inner walls, to attend the needs of its new inhabitants. The demolition highlighted the glass frames that run through the whole facade of the apartment, where is located the social area. The luminosity, coming from the floor-to-ceiling windows, crosses all the social areas of the place, making the space – now wide and integrated – filled with natural light.
